A cookie boycott targets ungodly Girl Scouts of America;
Will Republicans follow as Christie capitulates to inevitable equality?
Russia's child removal plan is pulled for "revisions", Podgorica police
protect Pride from protestors, an A.C.T. marriage measure and his
sister's engagement put pressure on Aussie P.M. Abbott, resistant
French mayors are ordered to marry same-gender couples, and more news!
-
In "NewsWrap": Proposed legislation in Russia to remove children from
the homes of their gay or lesbian parents is withdrawn, but not
forgotten… violent attacks by right-wing extremists on the first-ever
Pride march in Montenegro's capital of Podgorica end with several
injuries and multiple arrests… the federal government challenges the
latest effort to enact marriage equality in the Australian Capital
Territory, anti-equality Aussie P.M. Tony Abbott's out lesbian sister
announces her engagement, and lawmakers consider marriage equality bills
in the Australian states of New South Wales and Tasmania… France's
Constitutional Council -- the country's highest court -– rules that
mayors opposed to marriage equality cannot refuse to officiate at
weddings of same-gender couples… out U.S. figure skating champion Johnny
Weir retires from competition, but not from LGBT rights advocacy –-
including sharp criticism of Russia's so-called "no promo homo law" --
when he serves as a figure skating analyst for the NBC TV Network's
coverage of the February 2014 Winter Olympics in the Russian seaside
city of Sochi… and more LGBT news from around the world (written by GREG
GORDON, produced by STEVE PRIDE, and reported this week by SARAH
SWEENEY & GREG GORDON).
- Just hours after NEW JERSEY's first
same-gender wedding bells rang, GOVERNOR CHRIS CHRISTIE, touted as a
likely Republican presidential candidate, decided to stop beating his
head against the marriage equality wall. Christie's political calculus,
however, did not escape the critical eye of MSNBC's Rachel Maddow (with
intro music from the New Jersey State Song, sound from Senator-elect
CORY BOOKER marrying a gay couple, and comments by JEFF COOK-McCORMAC,
senior advisor to the
American Unity Fund, which lobbies Republican
politicians to support LGBT rights).

- They may be
adorable little girls in cute outfits carrying satchels of sugary
treats – but conservative Christian broadcasters KEVIN SWANSON and DAVE
BUEHNER [on "Generations with Vision Radio"] gained online infamy this
week with dire warnings about the nefarious GIRL SCOUTS OF AMERICA and
its trademark fund raising campaign (with intro music from "Leaping
Lesbians" by SUE FINK).
