"THIS WAY OUT: the international lesbian & gay radio magazine
Program #1,087 - distributed 1/26/09
(hosted by Greg Gordon and produced with Lucia Chappelle)
A silenced gay cleric creates an Obama concert controversy;
Nigeria's House votes against marriage equality, LGBT Americans –
though mostly invisible to the media – join millions celebrating the
inauguration of President Barack Obama, and more global LGBT news;
A gay movement grandfather is celebrated in a "Rainbow Minute", and
Acoustic folk. pop rock and hip hop team up in the "Audiofile"

- In "NewsWrap": Nigeria's House of Representatives unanimously passes legislation banning same-gender marriage... LGBTs join millions of people in the U.S., and around the world to celebrate the January 20th swearing-in of President Barack Obama, though mainstream media generally keeps their participation at the inaugural events invisible: the Gay Men's Chorus of Washington has an unidentified solo moment backing up the performance by Josh Groban and Heather Headley of "My Country 'Tis of Thee" [with brief audio] at the "We Are One" Concert at the Lincoln Memorial, and the Lesbian and Gay Band Association marches passed the smiling Obamas at the Inaugural Parade [with brief audio]... France's Secretary of State for Parliamentary Relations, comes out as his country's first openly gay government minister... and other LGBT news from around the world  (written by GREG GORDON, and reported this week by RICK WA
TTS and TANYA KANE-PARRY).

- A bittersweet fourth (excerpts from the title track and "Always In Your Mind" from JENNIFER O'CONNOR's "HERE WITH ME"), an intriguing second ("I Want the World to Change" and "Best Broken Dream" from HEISKELL's "CLIP-ON NOSE RING"), and an enchanted debut ("Dilemma" and the title track from CAPTAIN MAGIK's "YOUNG GAY & PROUD") team up in this month's "AUDIOFILE" (hosted by CHRIS WILSON & JD DOYLE and written and produced with CHRISTOPHER DAVID TRENTHAM) [www.audiofile.org].

- "FRANK KAMENY: GRANDFATHER OF THE GAY MOVEMENT" is celebrated in this "RAINBOW MINUTE" (produced by JUDD PROCTOR & BRIAN BURNS at WRIR-FM in Richmond, VA and read by TOM MILLER).

- Openly gay EPISCOPAL BISHO
P GENE ROBINSON of New Hampshire was tapped to provide an opening prayer at the January 18th Obama Pre-Inaugural "We Are One" concert.  His appearance at the star-studded event at the Lincoln Memorial was taken as a symbol of the new president's promise of full inclusion for the LGBT community.  However, the prayer was not broadcast in HBO's exclusive coverage of the event, and difficulties with the sound system also prevented most of the gathered crowd from hearing him.  Thanks to this recording by Sarah Pulliam of "Christianity Today," hear what millions missed on that celebratory night. ********************************************************
