Downtown Building Fire<BR>A two story building in the 300 block of East 5th
Street is on fire. <BR>Just minutes ago, the Austin Fire Department structural
engineers <BR>arrived on the scene to a do a survey and to determine whether or
not <BR>the building is structurally safe. KXAN News has also learned that
<BR>Austin Energy crews have turned off electricity to the entire
block.<BR><BR>Traffic is blocked off at the intersections of 5th street between
San <BR>Jacinto and Trinity.<BR><BR>We're told the buildings on fire include at
least two nightclubs, <BR>including Club Lick. The building also is home to KOOP
radio, which <BR>last month was damaged by an electrical fire. Several nearby
buildings <BR>were evacuated as a precaution. One person who was inside the
building <BR>was rescued by Austin firefighters. We're told that victim was an
<BR>occupant of an adjoining building who was treated at the scene.<BR><BR>One
Austin firefighter was injured during the fire fight and has been <BR>treated
for minor injuries. EMS officials tell us the firefighter was <BR>hit by debris
as he exited the building.<BR><BR>As many as 75 firefighters are on the scene
making this a 4-Alarm <BR>Fire. The investigation into the cause of the
fire will begin just as <BR>soon as the building is safe to enter.<BR></DIV>
