"Kill the Gays!"+Mormon defections+more LGBT news!"THIS WAY OUT: the international LGBT radio magazine"Program #1,442 - distributed 11/16/15Airs on more than 200 local stations around the world -Check the "Affiliate Stations" list on our website, or listen now via our free podcasts at www.thiswayout.org- or on iTunes, Soundcloud, or Stitcher -(hosted this week by Greg Gordon and produced with Lucia Chappelle)GOP hopefuls woo a "Kill the Gays" gadfly;Same-gender families and friends lead a new Mormon migration; The Australian Senate pans the government's marriage equalityplebiscite, Ukraine bans job bias to placate the EU, Utah foster momsbattle a bigoted judge for their baby, Starbucks stakes out SeattleSafe Places but critics condemn their "un-Christmas-y" cups, more news!
- In "NewsWrap": The Australian Senate votes thumbs down to the Coalition government's marriage equality plebiscite plan, while Costa Rican officials prosecute a lesbian couple that was able to legally marry because the birth certificate of one of the women erroneously identifies her as male… Ukraine lawmakers trade visa-free travel in Europe for LGBT anti-bias workplace protections… a Utah judge under fire for removing a baby girl from her married lesbian foster moms based on false "research" rescinds the removal order but schedules a "best interests of the child" hearing for early December [with brief comment by one of the lesbian moms, APRIL HOAGLAND)… Starbucks creates a "Safe Place" for LGBT customers in dozens of its Seattle locations, and ELLEN DEGENERES mocks the artificial controversy created by far-right Christian zealots charging that the Starbucks holiday cup isn't "Christmas-y" enough [with DeGeneres’ comments on her TV talk show this week]… and more LGBT news from around the world (produced by STEVE PRIDE, written by GREG GORDON, and reported this week by JOHN DYER V and MICHAEL LEBEAU).
- After giving MORMON LGBT people and their supporters a ray of hope by admitting that its adherents need to respect the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision on marriage equality, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints dealt them a crushing blow on November 5th. A revised Church Handbook banned baptisms for the children of same-gender parents, adding that those children could be baptized when they turn 18 — provided they renounce their parents’ marriages. In response, several hundred people rallied in SALT LAKE CITY on November 14th to renounce the faith. At last count more than 1500 people have formally resigned their Church membership. STEVE HOLBROOK of the group Post Mormon and Friends helped organize the rally, and AARON LINFORD explained why he was formally leaving the Church (sound recorded by RICH KANE for the "Salt Lake Tribune" website).
- When he started planning his FREEDOM 2015 NATIONAL RELIGIOUS LIBERTIES CONFERENCE, internet evangelical radio host KEVIN SWANSON probably thought that the presence of conservative Republican presidential hopefuls would bring both attendees and the press to his November 6th and 7th event in DES MOINES, IOWA. However the politicians who showed up (including TED CRUZ) may have been relieved that most of the mainstream media ignored the conference, despite Swanson’s incredibly inflammatory remarks. One of the few who did take note was MSNBC’s RACHEL MADDOW, who highlighted what she called "the kill the gays conference" on her program this week. Our coverage includes additional comments on Swanson’s theological pronouncements by Associate Producer LUCIA CHAPPELLE, who also serves as the Social Justice Minister at Founders Metropolitan Community Church in Los Angeles (with thanks to Right Wing Watch for watching Swanson, and intro/outro music from "It Ain't Necessarily So" performed by BRONSKI BEAT). ======================== * ======================="This Way Out" is a U.S. tax-exempt 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit under the corporate name of OVERNIGHT PRODUCTIONS (INC.), and is supported by the Kicking Assets Fund of the Tides Foundation, the Yavanna Foundation, a bequest from the estate of Christopher David Trentham, and donations from our listener-supporters.Thank you!=> Please log on to thiswayout.org to add your support [a tax-deductible charitable donation in the U.S.].  We really can't go on without you!***************************************************************On the air since April 1988, "This Way Out" is the multi-award-winning internationally distributed weekly gay and lesbian radio news magazine.
