Irish actor Colin Farrell supports his brother's marriage equality;
Anderson Cooper puts a homophobe on his "Ridiculist";
U.S. President Barack Obama's State of the Union words make history;
Chile is on the verge of civil unions, but Macedonia kills marriage
equality and chokes civil unions, Portugal quashes adoptions parity,
Russia cracks down on pro-LGBT films & a youth support website, more!

- In "NewsWrap": Chilean lawmakers put the finishing touches on a civil unions bill, but Macedonia's Parliament bans civil marriage and makes civil unions almost impossible, Portuguese lawmakers reject for the third time a bill to open adoption to same-gender couples, but a U.S. federal judge overturns Alabama's civil marriage ban… Russian authorities tentatively ban films that "defile national values" — such as, critics warn, any with positive LGBT content, and the founder of the online site for Russian LGBT teens "Children-404" is convicted of spreading "gay propaganda”… Israel's high court allows trans people to change the gender designation on their IDs without having to undergo reassignment surgery, trailblazing Silverton, Oregon Mayor STU RASMUSSEN, the first transgender mayor in the U.S., leaves politics — at least for now [with excerpts from his interview with Portland, Oregon's KPTV]… and more LGBT news from around the world (produced by STEVE PRIDE, written by GREG GORDON, and reported this week by SARAH SWEENEY and RICK WATTS) + UPDATE: A district judge issues a 14-day stay of her ruling overturning Alabama's civil marriage ban, though she said the state’s appeal was unlikely to succeed.

- U.S. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA came out with rhetoric blazing for his 2015 STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS to a joint session of Congress on January 20th. For the first time in history, the words "lesbian," "bisexual," and most significantly "transgender" were included in the chief executive's constitutionally required report – which also included a memorable off-the-cuff retort.

- CNN news anchor ANDERSON COOPER added his own response to being called out by the same Christian-right columnist who attacked the "gay agenda" promoted by Ellen DeGeneres on her TV talk show. Of course in the context of Cooper's hard news program, there was only one place for Larry Tomczak: "The Ridiculist".

- IRELAND's voters will be deciding in May whether marriage equality should be the law of the land. Irish actor and straight ally COLIN FARRELL explained why he's his brother's keeper during an interview this week on Irish public broadcaster RTE's "CLAIRE BYRNE LIVE”.
