A U.S. appeals court scoffs at bad breeder behavior-based inequality;
Ecuador engages civil unions, Utah's marriage case climbs the Supreme
Court ladder, Switzerland, Italy and Colombia each adopt rights for
same-gender parents, Berlin's out mayor opts out, lipstick lesbians
wear beauty queen crowns in Spain and Ireland,
and more LGBT news from around the world

-
In "NewsWrap": Ecuador's President Rafael Correa announces the advent
of civil unions for lesbian and gay couples, while equality-seeking
plaintiffs in the challenge to Utah's ban on civil marriage for
same-gender couples join state Attorney General Sean Reyes in asking the
U.S. Supreme Court to review the case, while a 3-judge panel of the 7th
U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals hearing challenges to Indiana's and
Wisconsin's bans batters state lawyers with logic [with a brief sound
snippet]… coupled same-gender parents win adoption rights in
Switzerland, Italy and Colombia… Berlin, Germany's long-serving out
Mayor Klaus Wowereit announces that he'll step down in December, while
two-time Miss Universe entry from Spain Patricia Yurena Rodríguez comes
out on Instagram, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania's Maria Walsh, the
reigning Rose of Tralee, "a global celebration of Irish culture", comes
out in an interview with the "Irish Sun" – which could make things a bit
sticky for New York City's Ancient Order of Hibernians… and more global
LGBT news (produced by STEVE PRIDE, written by GREG GORDON and reported
this week by WENZEL JONES & CAROLE MEYERS).

- Children were
at the heart of the arguments about marriage equality in hearings on
August 26th at the CHICAGO-based 7th U.S. CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEALS.
Attorneys for Indiana and Wisconsin each defended his state's ban on
civil marriage for same-gender couples as necessary to the promotion of
responsible procreation. Lawyers for the plaintiff couples stressed the
inequities faced by the children of same-gender couples because their
parents are denied civil marriage. But everyone's been talking about how
the 3-judge panel, led by Ronald Reagan appointee RICHARD POSNOR,
pulverized every argument to maintain their civil marriage bans that the
state attorneys offered. These excerpts from the INDIANA hearing also
feature Posner's fellow 7th Circuit Judges ANN CLAIRE WILLIAMS, a Bill
Clinton appointee; and DAVID HAMILTON, an Obama appointee. The victim of
their legal rending was INDIANA SOLICITOR GENERAL THOMAS FISCHER.
"Buzzfeed's" CHRIS GEIDNER and Freedom to Marry's EVAN WOLFSON (each
interviewed by guest host Jonathan Capehart on the August 30th edition
of MSNBC's "Up with Steve Kornacki") provide some brief analysis [also
includes intro/outro music from "Love Is All It Takes (To Make A
Family)" by ROMANOVSKY & PHILLIPS].
