(hosted by Greg Gordon and produced with Lucia Chappelle)
U.S. marriage equality cases heat towards a Supreme boil;
A Dallas sportscaster celebrates Sam;
The "Juno" star turns a Page;
Homophobic hysteria spreads on the African continent, Germany's top
court evades an adoptions rights question on a technicality, Arizona's
governor ponders a "license to discriminate", and more global LGBT news

-
 In "NewsWrap": A mob of 40 viciously attacks more than a dozen
perceived to be gay young men in Nigeria's capital of Abuja in the early
 morning hours of February 14th as violence against LGBT people
escalates following enactment of the so-called "Jail the Gays" law,
while LGBT people are reportedly fleeing equally inhospitable Uganda, as
 government leaders defy possible reduced foreign aid over the country's
 equally draconian "Anti-Homosexuality Act", and Gambian President Yahya
 Jammeh calls gay people "vermin" during a nationally televised speech…
Russian President Putin hands out a "humanitarian" award to a popular TV
 newscaster who said the hearts of gay people need to be burned or
buried to avoid accidental transplantation… Germany's top court evades a
 request to rule on the rights of civilly partnered same-gender couples
to adopt non-biological children, but Finland's parliament begins a
process that activists hope will lead to marriage equality in the only
Nordic country without it… will Arizona become the first U.S. state to
enact a bill that allows discrimination against LGBT people by
individuals and businesses if providing services would "substantially
burden" the exercise of their "sincerely held religious beliefs"? and
more LGBT news from around the world (produced by STEVE PRIDE, written
by GREG GORDON, and reported this week by TANYA KANE-PARRY and WENZEL
JONES).
- Developments are happening so fast on the U.S. marriage
equality front, it's hard to know in which state same-gender couples
will start marching down the aisle next!  MSNBC's RACHEL MADDOW took
stock of the rapidly advancing situation in mid-February with KENJI
YOSHINO, the Chief Justice Earl Warren Professor of Constitutional Law
at New York University School of Law [msnbc.com].
- For the past few
weeks the sports world has been hashing over University of Missouri
football star Michael Sam's pre-draft "I'm gay" announcement. The ESPN
sports network polled National Football League players about having a
gay teammate.  Happily for Sam, it wouldn't be a problem for most of
them. A small but significant number of respondents, however, wondered
if Sam would find a truly welcoming atmosphere. Meanwhile, one ringing
endorsement from well-known DALLAS, TEXAS TV sportscaster DALE HANSEN
has become a YouTube sensation (with brief instrumental intro music from
 "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" performed by SLY & THE
FAMILY STONE).

- Coming out is sounding better all the time, but
it's never easy. "Juno" star ELLEN PAGE took her next step at the Human
Rights Campaign's "Time to Thrive" conference to benefit LGBT youth
(with intro and outro music from the Oscar-nominated "Let It Go"
performed by IDINA MENZEL from the Disney film "Frozen").
