-
In "NewsWrap": Uganda's Constitutional Court overturns the country's
infamous Anti-Homosexuality Law, but only on a legal technicality [with
comments by one of the law's most vocal supporters, PASTOR MARTIN
SSEMPA, and Ugandan LGBT activist FRANK MUGISHA]… a now happily gay man
in China sues the psychology clinic that used electroshock "therapy" to
"convert" him to heterosexuality… the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals
becomes the latest federal appeals court to strike down a state's ban on
civil marriage for same-gender couples – this time the Commonwealth of
Virginia's; NORTH CAROLINA ATTORNEY GENERAL ROY COOPER, whose state also
falls under the jurisdiction of the 4th Circuit, announces that he'll
stop defending his state's ban [with brief comments by Cooper], but
South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, over which the 4th Circuit
also holds sway, says he'll continue to defend their ban… and more LGBT
news from around the world (produced by STEVE PRIDE, written by GREG
GORDON, and reported this week by WENZEL JONES and MICHELLE-MARIE
GILKESON).

- The case of a COLORADO cake shop was settled in
early June with the state Civil Rights Commission ordering the
proprietor to stop discriminating against same-gender couples.
Televangelist PAT ROBERTSON's predictably perverse analysis on his
conservative Christian "700 Club" this week was noted by Right Wing
Watch.

- "This Way Out" queer life and literature commentator
JANET MASON) was a bit surprised to discover how easily she related to
EDMUND WHITE's "INSIDE A PEARL: MY YEARS IN PARIS" (Bloomsbury) (intro'd
by a brief excerpt from White's audiobook version) + EDMUND WHITE "TWO"
I.D. (intro'd by a snippet of Gershwin's "An American in Paris”).

-
Last time on "This Way Out", we learned how the legendary "glitterati"
CHRISTOPHER ISHERWOOD and the much younger portrait artist DON BACHARDY
began their more than 30-year relationship in 1953. CHARLIE BAUER PhD
concludes his revelatory 2-part chat with Bachardy this week about the
recently-published collection of their love letters called "THE ANIMALS"
(Farrar, Straus and Giroux) (produced with STEVE PRIDE, and with
intro/outro music from "Love Letters" performed by NAT KING COLE).
