(hosted by Greg Gordon and produced with Lucia Chappelle)
God's love loses in a U.S. Methodist court and a homophobe's heart;
From a 50s purge in Florida to "Purple Hands" in San Francisco;
Hallmark gets a holiday "greeting" from "The Daily Show";
An initial marriage equality vote puts Scotland on the high road,
Senegal frees lesbians arrested for kissing, a court says Jamaican
broadcasters are not required to promote tolerance, and more LGBT news

-
 In "NewsWrap": A bill to open civil marriage to same-gender couples
advances in the Scottish Parliament, while Illinois Governor Pat Quinn
signs his state's marriage equality bill on Abraham Lincoln's desk… four
 of the 5 Senegalese women arrested at a Dakar restaurant and charged
with kissing in public are freed for insufficient evidence… patrons at
Moscow’s leading gay nightspot are shot at and gassed, while thugs
injure two in a violent assault at an HIV/STD clinic in St. Petersburg,
but a bomb threat fails to stop the opening of that city’s 6th annual
Side by Side LGBT Film Festival… Jamaica’s Constitutional Court upholds
broadcasters’ right to refuse to air a paid LGBT public service
announcement promoting "Love and Respect" [hear the audio track]… and
more global LGBT news (written by GREG GORDON, produced by STEVE PRIDE,
and reported this week by SARAH SWEENEY and RICK WATTS).

- By the
 power not yet vested in him either by his state of Pennsylvania or his
church, Zion United Methodist Church's REV. FRANK SCHAEFER pronounced
his gay son and his partner married -- and for a wedding gift the
denomination gave the proud pastor a 30-day suspension. Unless Rev.
Schaefer agrees to stop advocating for marriage equality, his
credentials could be permanently revoked.  Schaefer responded to the
action somewhat defiantly at a press conference.

- Globe-trotting
 homophobic crusader SCOTT LIVELY offered his perspective on what’s been
 going on in RUSSIA lately during a recent conversation with LINDA
HARVEY on her far right "Mission America" radio program. As Right Wing
Watch first reported, Lively bragged about how instrumental he was in
the passage of the Russian law banning the public dissemination of
so-called "gay propaganda" to minors. He also doesn’t like LGBT people
claiming the rainbow. And Lively told host Harvey that escalating
anti-gay hate crimes in Russia since the June passage of that "no promo
homo" law have not been heterosexual.

- Our "Queer Life and
Literature" commentator JANET MASON looks at a fictional account of the
very real intersection of civil rights and LGBT equality in U.S. history
 through the pages of "THE SIN WARRIORS" by JULIAN E. FARRIS [Lethe
Press].

- SAN FRANCISCO's day of the
"PURPLE HANDS" is recounted in this "RAINBOW MINUTE" (produced by JUDD
PROCTOR & BRIAN BURNS at WRIR-FM in Richmond, Virginia, and read by
MEGAN McEACHIN).

- Global greeting card giant HALLMARK caused a
fuss earlier this month when it unveiled one of its annual keepsake
Christmas tree ornaments, a festive sweater with a few words quoting a
well-known holiday carol -- but it wasn't "gay" apparel. The Kansas
City, Missouri-based company doesn't make a card for stumbles like this,
 but it did issue an apology. Always on top of breaking news in their
now-and-again "GayWatch" segment, Comedy Central's "THE DAILY SHOW WITH
JON STEWART" provided this penetrating report (we added the "Oh my!" tag
 by George Takei and generic Santa sounds).
