(hosted by Greg Gordon and produced with Lucia Chappelle)
Civil rights frictions fuel the new documentary "The New Black";
ENDA's U.S. Senate success hits a House roadblock;
Euro-Courts support African asylum-seekers and Greek partners, Ireland
and Croatia plan marriage equality votes while the A.C.T. counts down
to a High Court hearing on the issue, Illinois and Hawai'i march down
the aisle with 14 other U.S. states, and more global LGBT news

-
In "NewsWrap": The European Court of Justice rules that claimants from 3 African nations have the right to seek asylum in The Netherlands
because of persecution based on sexual orientation in their homelands,
while the European Court of Human Rights orders Greece to open its
currently hetero-only civil unions law to same-gender couples… the
Russian region of Arkhangelsk repeals its local "no promo homo" law, but only because a similar federal law was enacted in June… the cabinet of
the Republic of Ireland agrees to hold a marriage equality referendum in 2015, but Croatia will ask its voters to approve a constitutional
amendment to define marriage as "matrimony between a man and a woman";
Australia's High Court announces that it will begin hearing the federal
government's challenge to the marriage equality law enacted in the
Australian Capital Territory on December 3rd, just 5 days before it's
scheduled to take effect… lawmakers in Illinois and Hawai'i each approve marriage equality bills that will be enthusiastically signed into law
by their respective governors… the U.K.’s leading LGBT advocacy group
Stonewall anoints U.S. televangelist PAT ROBERTSON its "Bigot of the
Year" [with a :35 sample of why Robertson "won”]… and more LGBT news
from around the world (written by GREG GORDON, produced by STEVE PRIDE,
and reported this week by PAMELA BROOKS & WENZEL JONES).

-
The U.S. SENATE completed a step this week that began very nearly two
decades ago.  ENDA, the EMPLOYMENT NON-DISCRIMINATION ACT, passed in the
 upper chamber on November 7th by a vote of 64-to-32 -- four more votes
than were needed to overcome a GOP filibuster. Contrary to the belief
expressed by a majority of Americans in recent polls, there are
currently no such discrimination protections for LGBT people at the
federal level. But Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner refuses
to add ENDA to his chamber's agenda because he believes it's unnecessary
 and would encourage "frivolous litigation" (includes comments by
Senators TAMMY BALDWIN and JEFF MERKLEY, and outro music from HOLE's
"Gutless”).

- The scene is the U.S. state of Maryland. The time
is the recent marriage equality initiative campaign. LGBT activists are
on one side, and the African American church is on the other. A new
documentary peers into the conflict and unmasks the political
manipulators who are taking advantage of those tensions. Its director
YORUBA RICHEN charts the evolution of "THE NEW BLACK" with "This Way
Out's" STEVE PRIDE (with intro/outro music from MELANGE LAVONNE's "Gay
Bash").
