The "Hole" story of lesbian rocker Patty Schemel's redemption;
First Daughter Mariela Castro comments on Cuba's queer rights movement;
Ukrainian lawmakers back off a "no promo homo" bill, Singaporean rights
supporters get pretty in "Pink", Laos sees its first-ever Pride
gathering, the U.S. DOJ advances challenges to DOMA,
reactions differ to two American self-"outings", and more LGBT news

- In "NewsWrap": Global pressure against it appears to have caused a proposed "no promo homo" bill in the Ukraine to be withdrawn from parliament on the day a vote on it had been scheduled... a giant "Pink Dot" lights up a Singapore park with the "freedom to love", while the U.S. embassy in Vientiane hosts the first-ever Pride event in Laos, and marriage is on the minds of Pride marchers in Edinburgh, Madrid, and Paris... the U.S. Justice Department asks the Supreme Court to fast track a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA)... TV journalist/talk show host Anderson Cooper officially comes out – and the world shrugs – but rising urban music star Frank Ocean hip-hops into history by blogging about his first love – a man... and more LGBT news from around the world (written by GREG GORDON, produced by STEVE PRIDE, and reported this week by JENN MAHONEY & VASH BODDIE).

- From the dissident streets to the heart of the revolutionary government, change is coming for CUBA's LGBT community. As Director of the National Center for Sex Education, MARIELA CASTRO – the daughter of Cuban President Raul Castro – is usually credited with leading the way in the effort to win full equality. But independent LGBT groups are also stepping forward with their own agendas. Castro explained her role in the movement, and her strategy for policy reform (translated by Elizabeth Cole) in an exclusive mid-June interview with "Democracy Now!'s" AMY GOODMAN [www.democracynow.org].

- Hollywood and the entertainment industry it represents is known for being a meat grinder that can destroy the most talented of performers. But "This Way Out's" STEVE PRIDE discovered an award-winning documentary about an "out" lesbian rock refugee who's "gone to the dogs" in "HIT SO HARD: THE LIFE & NEAR DEATH STORY OF PATTY SCHEMEL" [Variance Films] (includes an audio clip, comments by director & co-screenwriter P. DAVID EBERSOLE and former HOLE drummer PATTY SCHEMEL) [www.pattydoc.com].
