"THIS WAY OUT: the international lesbian & gay radio magazine"
  Program #1,227 - distributed 10/3/11
  Airs on more than 200 local stations around the world... or
  Listen now via our free podcasts at www.thiswayout.org.
  (hosted this week by Lucia Chappelle and produced with Greg Gordon)
  "How We Won" the demise of "Don't Ask Don't Tell";
  Nigeria considers making same-gender marriage a crime, gay and lesbian
  couples win in U.K. and U.S. counts, the Prop 8 trial video isn't
  coming to a screen near you, a setback and an advance in the latest
  "Don't Ask" skirmishes, debated "outings" target "suspect" anti-gay
  Italian politicians, and more global LGBT news

- In "NewsWrap": Nigeria's Senate supports legislation to criminalize marriages of gay and lesbian couples and also jail anyone who actively supports such ceremonies... the U.K.'s Office of National Statistics reports that couples in same-gender civil partnerships stay together more than couples in heterosexual marriages, while the number of lesbian and gay Americans telling the decennial 2010 U.S. Census that they're living with a same-gender partner jumps by more than 80 percent since the last Census in 2000... a 3-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals stops the scheduled September 30th release of video recordings of last year's Proposition 8 trial, while another 9th Circuit 3-judge panel "disappears" last year's district court judge's ruling calling Don't Ask Don't Tell unconstitutional... Italy is a-buzz over the online "outing" by U.S. bloggers of ten conservative lawmakers and ministers in the homophobic administration of Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, all of whom have anti-gay voting records... and more LGBT news from around the world (written by GREG GORDON, produced by STEVE PRIDE, and reported this week by VASH BODDIE and GARY SHAW).

- Even though the repeal of DON'T ASK DON'T TELL went into effect on September 20th, the closing battles of the war to liberate LGBT service members are still unresolved. Although lesbian, gay, and bisexual people can now participate in the U.S. military openly, this week's dismissal of a lawsuit that had found the defunct policy unconstitutional means that that ruling cannot be used to help settle lingering legal questions. And a new Pentagon memo allowing military chaplains to conduct same-gender marriages is no substitute for equal rights and benefits for gay and lesbian couples. Dorian Merina interviewed DAVID MCKEAN of the Service Members Legal Defense Network for "Free Speech Radio News" on the day "Don't Ask Don't Tell" repeal became official. Then, with Amy Goodman on "Democracy Now!" on the same day, San Francisco State University political science professor and author AARON BELKIN (“HOW WE WON: PROGRESSIVE LESSONS FROM THE REPEAL OF 'DON'T ASK DON'T TELL'") responded to comments by antiwar queer activist and writer MATTILDA BERNSTEIN SYCAMORE, and offered a comprehensive analysis of the road to ending the military's ban on lesbian and gay service members (with intro/outro music from "Who We Are" performed by MATT ALBER & TOM GOSS, and a mid-segment "TWO" I.D. at about 6:03 in by Irish singing duo ZRAZY, intro'd by a snippet from their "Come Out Everybody").
