– ERIC JANSEN ("Out in the Bay" on KALW-FM/San Francisco) hosts a wide-ranging conversation about LGBT struggles in Africa and other parts of the world with International Gay & Lesbian Human Rights Commission Executive Director CARY ALAN JOHNSON, and health advocate and gay activist LOURENCE (LARRY) MISEDAH, whose family in Kenya -- where homosexuality is punishable by up to 14 years in prison -- disowned him after he came out as a gay man on television in 2007. After surviving violence and numerous death threats at his university, he applied for and was granted political asylum in the U.S., where his HIV/AIDS activism and advocacy for LGBT rights continues (discussion subjects include gay men's access to health care, coming out, the global impact of the anti-gay U.S.-based Christian evangelical political group "The Family" – especially in Uganda - transgender rights, activism at the United Nations, and bad and good news from KENYA, UGANDA, RWANDA, MALAWI, SOUTH AFRICA, JAMAICA, THE PHILIPPINES, IRAN, and INDIA).
