Feldman's "Amazon" reborn with new flavors;
Pride midwife Clare Dimyon's MBE;
Marriage equality miscarries in Maryland, Pelosi tells Boehner to
"show her the money," Sydney's Mardi Gras, Moldova's fears, and more
global LGBT news
- In "NewsWrap": Maryland's House of Delegates fails to come up with
the votes to pass the marriage equality bill approved by the state
Senate, so it goes back to committee and won't be heard of again
until next year; U.S. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi challenges
Speaker John Boehner to "show her the money" that will pay private
attorneys to defend DOMA on behalf of Congress; Sydney's Gay and
Lesbian Mardi Gras draws hordes of spectators cheering hundreds of
prospective "brides" and "grooms"; human rights activists in Moldova
are alarmed by the presence of one of the same U.S. evangelicals who
fanned the flames of homophobia in Uganda; the courts won't let a
British couple be foster parents because of their anti-gay views, so
they think they may have better luck in Parliament; bullying gets the
spotlight in the Beltway, with a White House Conference on the
problem and a slew of bills to address it; Target's politics make
Lada Gaga gag-gag... and more LGBT news from around the world
(written by LUCIA CHAPPELLE and reported this week by MICHAEL LEBEAU
and TANYA KANE-PARRY).
- In 1976 the late lesbian folk singer MAXINE FELDMAN wrote a song
that would become an early anthem for the Women’s Music Movement. Now
a group of artists have created "Amazon 35," a CD with new versions
of the song. J.D. DOYLE recalls his 2002 interview with Feldman and
talks with JUDITH CASSELBERRY about the commemorative project.
- CLARE DIMYON is a British activist who started going to various
Pride events in eastern Europe in 2007, and helping to initiate
Prides where there were none. She was recently awarded an MBE for her
efforts. ROSIE WILBY talked with Dimyon about getting the honor and
about her adventures on the road.
- The women of the Executive Board of the European region of the
International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association
posted a special ILGA-EUROPE message for the 100th International
Women's Day, March 8th.
