(hosted this week by Greg Gordon and produced with Lucia Chappelle)
New York crosses the threshold to marriage equality, while Obama's
ringing "non-endorsement" suggests a failure to "evolve";
partnerships are endorsed in Liechtenstein and Wisconsin, Tennesseans
launch a lawsuit for the right to ban bias, police protect protested
Pride parades in Sofia, Zagreb and Budapest, the W.H.O. finds anti-gay
sex laws unhealthy, Amnesty asks Turkey to axe homophobia, and more!

- In "NewsWrap": The New York state Senate makes dual history on June 24th by approving legislation to open civil marriage to same-gender couples, and by being the first Republican-controlled legislative body to do so... voters in the tiny European nation of Liechtenstein overwhelmingly endorse a new law passed in parliament to create registered partnerships for gay and lesbian couples, while a county circuit court judge in Wisconsin upholds that U.S. state's domestic partnership registry, and lawmakers in Tennessee are sued for passing a bill prohibiting local jurisdictions from enacting LGBT-inclusive anti-bias protections... LGBT people and their allies march with Pride –- and police protection –- in Bulgaria's capital of Sofia, Croatia's capital of Zagreb, and Hungary's capital of Budapest, while peaceful, colorful and "uncontested" Pride parades are held in Ensenada and Tijuana, Mexico... the World Health Organization urges governments to eliminate laws criminalizing consensual adult gay sex to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS, while Amnesty International calls on the newly elected Turkish parliament to protect the lives and rights of sexual minorities... and other LGBT news from around the world (written by GREG GORDON, produced by STEVE PRIDE, and reported this week by RICK WATTS and CHRIS WILSON).

- From Greenwich Village to Niagra Falls, the good news is "out" for gay and lesbian couples after a week of legislative nail-biting. "This Way Out's" LUCIA CHAPPELLE reports on the historic marriage equality victory in NEW YORK, with comments by PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA in Manhattan two days before the dramatic vote at his first fundraiser specifically targeting LGBT donors; statements on the floor of the chamber on June 25th by NEW YORK SENATOR RUBEN DIAZ, the only Democrat to oppose the bill; openly gay Democratic SENATOR TOM DUANE; supportive Republican SENATOR MARK GRISANTI; and Democratic NEW YORK GOVERNOR ANDREW CUOMO.

- Poet JONATHAN RYAN LEE passed away on June 1st. "This Way Out" was privileged to include his reading of one of his poems on a December 2010 program. His surviving partner of 33 years Roy Lee requested that we rebroadcast that poem in his memory near the 4th of July, which was his favorite holiday: "ANY OTHER NAME" (with thanks to ELAINE BAUMGARTEL at KUNM-FM in Albuquerque, New Mexico for original production assistance, and to "facilitator" GLEN THAMERT).
