Celebrating a gravelly-voiced writer/actor in a "Rainbow Minute";
AIDS prevention ads are attacked by the Australian Christian Lobby,
Nepal's head count of "third genders" may be a world first, "It Gets
Batter" with pro baseball teams' anti-bullying plays, and more news

- In "NewsWrap": An Aussie safe sex campaign is saved from homophobic Christian opposition... South Africa's recently-appointed ambassador to Uganda Jon Qwelane is convicted of anti-gay hate speech... Nepal becomes what may be the world's first country to count sexual minorities in its census... dozens of couples get licensed in Illinois on the first day the state's new civil unions law takes effect, while Connecticut and Nevada governors each sign bills protecting transgender people from discrimination; and the 2010 U.S. baseball champion San Francisco Giants become the first professional sports franchise to contribute a supportive video to the "It Gets Better" LGBTQ teen suicide prevention campaign [hear the audio track]... and more LGBT news from around the world (written by GREG GORDON, produced by STEVE PRIDE, and reported this week by TANYA KANE-PARRY and MICHAEL LEBEAU).

- Conservative voices in favor of same-gender marriage are being heard more and more often. To the surprise of some, major Republican donors known more for their support of conservative candidates than progressive social causes are kicking in big bucks to push for marriage equality in New York (BILL NEWMAN of the ACLU of Massachusetts has the story in this "CIVIL LIBERTIES MINUTE").

- "HARVEY FIERSTEIN'S VOICE" celebrates the pioneering "out" writer/actor in this "RAINBOW MINUTE" (produced by JUDD PROCTOR & BRIAN BURNS at WRIR-FM in Richmond, Virginia and read by Sonia of disappear fear).

- Singer-songwriter RYAN STATES talks about how listening to "This Way Out" helped inspire him to be an "out" performer (with an excerpt from his "Better (When You're Older)", and special thanks to JD DOYLE) + "TWO" I.D. by iconic lesbian singer/songwriter JANIS IAN.

- From writer/director MIKE MILLS comes "BEGINNERS", a comedy/drama about how deeply funny and transformative life can be, even at its most serious moments. Borrowing from his experience with his own late father, Mills crafts an endearing drama about an elderly widower (CHRISTOPHER PLUMMER) who announces that he's gay to his son (EWAN MCGREGOR) and that he "plans to do something about it." "This Way Out's" STEVE PRIDE chats with Mills and McGregor and shares clips from the film.
