 "THIS WAY OUT: the international lesbian & gay radio magazine"
    Program #1,214 - distributed 7/4/11
    Airs on more than 200 local stations around the world... or
    Listen now via our free podcasts at
    http://www.thiswayout.org
    (hosted this week by Lucia Chappelle and produced with Greg Gordon)
    It's still "Getting Better" for Dan Savage;
    There's triumph and tragedy at Prides from New York to St. Petersburg,
    a Brazilian judge rules for marriage equality, the American Medical
    Association prescribes same-gender matrimony, activists unite to oppose
    Rhode Island civil unions, New Jersey couples sue for real rights,
    Chinese LGBTs vacate a censoring website, and more global LGBT news

- In "NewsWrap": June's traditional month of Pride ends with massive marches in major cities around the world, with extra jubilation sparked by New York becoming the sixth and largest U.S. state to open civil marriage to gay and lesbian couples: crowds celebrate in New York City, San Francisco, and Chicago (which overcomes slashed float tires); a tragic accident ends the Anchorage Pride parade; hundreds of thousands march with Pride in Paris, Berlin, and Barcelona, but 14 activists are attacked by homophobic thugs and police and arrested for attempting to demonstrate for equality in St. Petersburg, Russia; thousands march in Mexico City, hundreds parade in San Jose, Costa Rica, about a dozen stage Havana's first-ever Pride celebration, and an estimated four million revelers stake Sao Paulo's claim to the largest LGBT Pride event n the world... a Sao Paulo state judge approves what's being touted as Brazil's first legal same-gender marriage, while the American Medical Association prescribes matrimonial equality for healthier same-gender couples and families...most Rhode Island LGBT advocacy groups condemn the less-than-equal civil unions law passed by the state legislature this week as perpetuating discrimination, and seven New Jersey gay and lesbian couples sue their state demanding the right to civil marriage, charging that ample evidence demonstrates the failure of civil unions there to provide true spousal equality... heart-broken Chinese LGBT people are abandoning their once favorite social networking website Douban because it's been censoring content by and for sexual minorities... and more LGBT news from around the world (written by GREG GORDON, with thanks to REX WOCKNER with BILL KELLEY, produced by STEVE PRIDE, and reported this week by JON BEAUPRE and CHRIS WILSON).

- "This Way Out's" "chat-gay" STEVE PRIDE has charms to soothe a Savage "spokes-gay," who famously wore an "Evolve Already" button to a recent LGBT White House reception, and who grand marshaled New York's 41st annual Pride parade: husband/father/writer/activist DAN SAVAGE discusses his own evolution from wisecracking sex advice columnist to creating the "It Gets Better" campaign; his personal story of overcoming school bullying; and family life with his longtime partner Terry Miller, whom he married in Canada, and their adopted son (includes a collage of a few of the hundreds of "It Gets Better" videos, and music from "It Gets Better" performed by JEFFREY ALTERGOTT) [www.itgetsbetter.org].
