A presidential telling, a returned ring, and shared military showers;
A Prop 8 appeals court question creates complications;
Ugandan activists win against an "outing" tabloid, the U.N. restores sexual orientation to a resolution against extrajudicial executions, Alberta's amended psych list is better late than never, and other news;
and a "Rainbow Minute" recalls the crossed paths of Sipple and Ford.

- In "NewsWrap": Uganda's highest court slaps "Top 100 Homos/Hang Them!" tabloid "Rolling Stone" with monetary damages and henceforth bans all media from publishing lists of gays and lesbians, while a Harare court acquits Gays & Lesbians of Zimbabwe administrator Ellen Chademana on pornography charges... the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals temporarily refers the Prop 8 case to the California Supreme Court for a ruling on whether or not Prop 8 sponsors can legally defend it... the United Nations General Assembly restores gays and lesbians to a resolution against extrajudicial killings of specified targeted minorities... New Jersey Governor Chris Cristie signs what's being called the toughest anti-bullying legislation in the country... repeal of New Hampshire's marriage equality law is a real possibility in the now conservative Republican-dominated state legislature... the Canadian province of Alberta no longer lists gays and lesbians as "disordered deviates"... and more LGBT news from around the world (written by GREG GORDON, and reported this week by CHRIS WILSON and BEN CARON).

- The U.S. NINTH CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEALS paused in their consideration of the federal constitutionality of CALIFORNIA's marriage equality-banning PROPOSITION 8 to ask the state's Supreme Court to decide whether or not the measure's sponsors have legal standing to appeal the lower court ruling that overturned the measure. AILEEN ALFANDARY reported on the latest developments on the January 4th edition of Pacifica Radio's "California Evening News" (with comments by SHANNON MINTER of the National Center for Lesbian Rights and GEOFF KORS of Equality California).

- A "RAINBOW MINUTE" recalls the crossed paths of a U.S. Commander in Chief and a gay man in "SIPPLE SAVES A PRESIDENT" (produced by JUDD PROCTOR & BRIAN BURNS at WRIR-FM in Richmond, Virginia and read by JOHN DeBOER).

- Another U.S. president, another gay man, and a U.S. Senator were the latest to make history late last month. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA made December 22nd, 2010 a red-letter day for gays and lesbians when he signed legislation authorizing repeal of the U.S. military's odious DON'T ASK DON'T TELL policy (DANNY WOOD of "Free Speech Radio News" reports on the ceremony, and talks about the way forward with AARON TAX, Legal Director of the SERVICEMEMBERS LEGAL DEFENSE NETWORK/www.sldn.org). MSNBC news commentator RACHEL MADDOW heralded the imminent demise of Don't Ask Don't Tell with a live audience on her program that night with reports on a very literal exchange between activist LT. DAN CHOI and U.S. SENATE MAJORITY LEADER HARRY REID of Nevada; and CONGRESSMAN BARNEY FRANK of Massachusetts being "clean and articulate" in response to right-wing CNSnews.com "Cybercast" reporter NICHOLAS BALLASY's query about the "horrors" of post-repeal shower sharing [www.fsrn.org; www.msnbc.com].
