GLSEN's student-saving network battles school bullying;
A U.S. federal court questions the constitutionality of "Don't Ask
Don't Tell", pro-marriage Aussie Greens help goose Labor into another
term, a lesbian Latina is named to Colorado’s top court, progressive Italian Protestants bless same-gender unions, a Faroe Islands M.P.
fumes over the Icelandic P.M.'s visit, and more global LGBT news

- In "NewsWrap": A federal district court judge rules that "Don't Ask Don't Tell", the Pentagon policy forcing gay and lesbian service members to stay in the closet, violates the First and Fifth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution... Colorado Governor Bill Ritter appoints Monica Marquez as the first Latina and "out" lesbian to the state Supreme Court... with the support of three newly-elected independent MPs and the new marriage equality-supportive Green MP, Australia's ruling Labor Party maintains power, while the state of New South Wales opens adoption to same-gender couples... the joint synod of two of Italy's Protestant denominations, the Waldensians and Methodists, votes to allow its churches to bless same-gender couples... a conservative Christian M.P. in the Faroe Islands refuses to attend an official state dinner for Iceland's legally-married lesbian P.M. and her spouse... and more LGBT news from around the world (written by GREG GORDON, with thanks to LUCIA CHAPPELLE, and reported this week by MICHAEL LEBEAU and BEN CARON).

- Public officials and activists alike told the NEW YORK legislature how bullying had made their childhoods miserable, about adults who looked away, and other school officials who blamed the victims. Virtually everyone applauded the state’s new Dignity for All Students Act, signed into law this week by Governor David Paterson. It bans bullying of students based on their race, national origin, religion, and other characteristics - including sexual orientation and gender identity. And while laws are helpful, how do you actually stop kids from bullying other kids who are "different"? "This Way Out's" SHERI LUNN talks with DR. ELIZA BYARD, who leads GLSEN - the GAY, LESBIAN AND STRAIGHT EDUCATION NETWORK - to find out how their powerful programs are changing campus culture around the U.S. (with music by DAVID BROWN and WILL.I.AM, and two GLSEN-sponsored public service announcements) [www.glsen.org].
