This will be the 2 man (OK, men-in dresses!) version of our Joni Mitchell show, with me playing bass on synth. We always do this when they don't give us the budget to bring a bass player, and I love it 'cause it makes the challenge of keeping the audience wowwed just that much more intense. After removing duplicate voting, invalid addresses, and addressing several issues of voter manipulation I am happy to announce that this year is the largest voter turn out for one category of the awards. Thanks to voters, artists, SWS members, and new voters! Also this year was the largest response from voters on suggestions, comments, and requests. Which brings me to the point. Many voters have stated a large interest in a presentation show consisting of artist involvement. As there sadly will not be a live presentation ceremony, I have come up with a possible solution of sorts. If any artists would like to participate, it can be made very easy to do so. It would require merely a few minutes of your time and a PC or phone call. I can put the show together using recorded presenters and even announcement of recipients. If you are interested in participating please respond to this email, directly to me, by 3-3-2010. I will make a decision if the PITA announcement date will change to 3-15-2010 for such a show on that date. We are looking at the possibility of a live show via RWR as well. I will also have that answer by the 3rd and will circulate here and at the PITA website. Some news about which I am very excited, thanks to the donations of just a few artists to the awards there will be an actual award this year. Not a certificate, but an award. As well once the process for these awards is complete, past recipients will be able to order their awards as well/ There will be no charge for the award of course. I will only ask for shipping and packaging costs, $5.00 to be covered. Would be really great to get some feedback for the artists on these subjects. Hope to hear from you!!! As reported on the PITA website, ballots for the Film Arts Awards were lost in the recent programs crash. So those awards will run again in the next award round later this year. Also at the request of many voters and SWS members the Music awards will be annual. So the 2010 PITA Music Awards will begin nominations in October of 2010. Again congrats to all nominees! Message-ID: <74B8B7AC8502490F8B279A0A04748E32@D8LLQDC1> Hi all, Most of the lost data has finally been recovered. Did have a huge email loss though. So if you have not heard back on something and have been waiting please email again. My apologies! January 2010 OutVoice ballots have been recovered and will be posted as soon as possible. Should be by weekend at latest. The Top ten song chart will post on 3-10 as scheduled. The February chart will post on 3-15 as expected. Pride In The Arts Music Award Recipients will be announced 3-21-2010 on Rainbow World Radio at 8pm eastern time, then posted on the Pride In The Arts website. There is a large interest in an awards show with artist participation on the part of artists and voters. So the date reflects time I need to do production work to facilitate a worthy presentation. Took a bit longer than I expected to contact necessary resources. And.... I cannot do on the 15th of March as I stated earlier. In my excitement of the PITA's and response, I neglected to keep March 15th open to celebrate my anniversary of thirty years with Chris. Yeesh old age eh? There may be an anniversary show, not decided yet. Feedback? I will be emailing those of you who want to take part in the PITA Awards program starting 3-10-2010. The show as set above will be on the 21 of March. So if we can complete recordings by the 18 we will be great. Thanks to all of you for volunteering to take part in the program. I am very excited and have a few surprises in store. There will be some changes to the OutVoice Top 40 chart effective back to January 2010. As many of you know I have wrestled with a particular problem with the chart since I took it over in 2004. That being a lack of response or even acknowledgement by the artists on the chart. Many of you email thanks or post on your website or newsletter for your fans which is wonderful, and what I am looking for. You do not need to feel compelled to thank me, not what I am asking for. I am just asking that you thank YOUR fans. It would be nice to know you got the announcement email. Even a "received" would be fine for me. As I check sites like FB and MS daily I am sure I will have no problems seeing your fan thanks if you do not email me directly. So, I have finally I think arrived at a decision. If an artist goes four months on the chart without any acknowledgement or contact, I will accept that the artist has no interest in chart placement and they will be removed from the chart. I will verify email addresses and contact points first to be sure the announcements have been received. I am putting this out here for your feedback artists before I formally place on OutVoice. I do not like this, but at a loss for what else to do. If that takes the chart to a Top 20 so be it. There are artists who have been on the chart for many months, even a year, that have never acknowledged in any way. I will no longer ask fans to take time to vote for such nor do I have interest in supporting those who do not have an obvious interest in or appreciation of the chart. I also realize my part in this too. My frustration and disappointment has put me in a place where I do not even send announcement emails to the chart place holders for the last several months. Sending 40 individual emails and getting any kind of answer or fan acknowledgement from less than 20 is a real depressing experience. Oh and I hear back from 20 on a good month. So I will correct my part and make sure the announcements are sent. That same lack of motivation is why there has been no monthly show for the Top 40 chart. I will also correct that. If there is more I need do, please share that information. Oh the four month rule will also apply to the Top Ten Song Chart. Hope I have not made anyone angry, not my goal. Thank u Len & Stonewall for creating the awards, congrats to all the other nominees & winners, and special thanks to all who voted for me. I want to thank some very gifted musicians whose talents contributed so mightily to the success of the album: NYC producer/musician/recording studio owner GLEN MUNOZ for his blues harp on "Man Ain't Supposed to Cry" (Glen even brought to the session his own vintage "bullet" mic for that true rock 'n roll harmonica sound); Longtime friend bassist STEVEN SULLIVAN for bass guitar on several songs; MAXINE who played mandolin on "We Are Angels" with a sparkling "radical faerie" innocence; Techmeister team of TOM O'NEAL & MARK WOLLENWEIDER who laid down the ultra-hip synth/drum techno beds for "Freedom" and "Intimacy"; TOM O'NEAL for co-writing the music accompaniment in "Intimacy". (Tom & Mark also created the techno bed for my own song "Waiting for Rome to Fall" (on which Roger Mapes as Yolanda happens to make a guest vocal appearance) from my 2004 ROCK WIDOW cd. And of course - ROGER YOLANDA MAPES - who truly sang his heart out on this album; whose songs inspired me; and whose unconditional confidence & encouragement let me run with my creative instincts and helped me push the boundaries of my own playing and singing on the songs. After all the tracks were "in the can", and Roger was looking for a name for the cd - I suggested "House of Joy" - as it combines the sheer fun southern rock sound of the album with the good-natured but bawdy madame that is so Yolanda. (down south, "House of Joy" is a nickname for a brothel). Thus the cd, our band, and our NYC stage show were named. Additional thanks to HOUSE OF JOY stage band members ELIJAH WOOD-guitar; ROBIN DANIELS-percussion and STEVEN SULLIVAN-bass who so skillfully (and patiently) learned my song arrangements and who breathed life into the parts for the live stage show. And thank you legendary cabaret director PETER NAPOLITANO whose artistic staging & lighting made the "live" House of Joy show so much fun for audiences to see. Great stuff can happen when LGBT artists work with LGBT producers. I know from my own personal experience as a recording singer/songwriter how uncomfortable it can be to sing one's explicit same-sex lyric (and have it be a perfect "take") when the producer listening in recording you may not be sympathetic to, or even understand, openly queer music. The resulting less-than-optimum vibe between producer and artist can adversely affect a performance, making it, however slight, something less than it could be. Here at Urban Productions, that entire issue is removed from the equation. LGBT singers can sing right from their hearts - as they are in kindred company. - and thus we capture for posterity some very good, very special recorded performances, as we surely did with Roger's "House of Joy". For a fun taste of all that is HOUSE OF JOY - check out my Youtube "House of Joy live-in-concert" slideshow, which commemorates our February 2010 NYC show & rehearsals, and is set to the music of the cd's LGBT pride anthem "Freedom". I wanted to take a second and congratulate all of the nominees and?recipients of this past weekends Pride In The Arts Awards.? A special THANKS to Len Rogers for being a tireless champion at the?helm of StoneWall Society/Pride In The Arts/Outvoice/Artist For Equality.? ? I think it's so vital to our community to have opportunities to celebrate and raise up the voices of our?community in a way that recognizes the efforts and achievements of the artists who are engaged in their creative ability and are unafraid to stand up and STAND OUT and share of themselves and their songs.? It seems cliche to say, but we truly are all winners for doing what we do on all various levels of visibility and ability.? Within my own lifetime and just 20+ years ago, this opportunity on this scale was not possible.? We have come so far, and yet we painfully see in DADT, Marriage (In)Equality/Prop 8 and the decade plus it took Judy Sheppard to get the Matthew Shepard hate crime bill signed into law, that each of us, each of our voices, our songs, our stories?is what is needed to push through as a community and stay united and focused with our collective eye on the prize. ? We have a choice to lift each other up or to pull each other down.? I would hope that, though there is a certain element of competition in rallying our fan bases for votes, that the other positive?aspect is?of?us sharing and gaining?more visibility?as artists and as an artistic community?doesn't get?lost.? I am not Alice and I don't reside in Wonderland, but I?do, however,?believe that success for any one of us is success for ALL of US.? There has been recent success in many different directions, by many different artists in different genres that are all?doing GREAT WORK. ? Regardless of what you think of me as a person, or of me as an artist,?I consider each of you that I share this musical journey with a brother or sister in music.? To you all I say and PROUDLY SHOUT...carry on and keep on keepin' on! ? Thanks once again to?Len Rogers for providing such a positive and community supportive awards program and CONGRATULATIONS ONE and ALL.? ? In Music, Terry Christopher ? Eastern Daylight Time, nickgranato at songharbor.com writes: Dear Friends & Flockers, I find myself in a precarious position, and a bit scary one as a musician-performer. I have struggled over the years with an un-named debilitating neuro-muscular disorder, kind of a cross between ALS and MS. Over time it has progressed from some slight pain and muscle spasms to full out system failures, it is quite unpredictable and at times leaves me unable to function. In November 2009, I was performing in Miami on South Beach and I found I could no longer feel my guitar strings. As you might imagine I panicked a bit and finished up the best I could. I had been seated on a stool singing and playing acoustic guitar, when I got up I realized I had lost the feeling in my legs as well, I fell forward off the riser, I was shaken up, and in a matter of minutes the feeling in my legs returned, though my fingers have remained numbed, this my Doctors say, unfortunately is the next phase of the disorder. There?s a possibility I may regain use and I can play again, but then there is also the reality that I will not, though I will continue my daily physical therapy in hope. As a lot of you know, reluctantly I have had to cancel my 2010 Tour to promote my latest CD ?In Real Life?. I am forced to take some time off and give my body a chance to possibly heal, I don?t want to disappoint 12000 Flockers, but I really have no choice, I?m sure you understand. I will update everyone monthly as usual from my website. I will continue my songwriting, my syndicated radio show, some recording, as well as some other creative endeavors. I truly appreciate your continued support and prayers in this matter, I?m not proud - so I ask for prayer, and I thank you in advance. I was reminded by a good friend not so long ago that ?God knows what He?s doing? and ?He does have a master plan?, so I have to keep the faith, and continue to press on. I?m not disappearing, just attempting to heal. I love you all and thank you for allowing me to live my dream! Godspeed Nick Granato P.S. Don?t forget to check out my new CD -?In Real Life?, and don?t stop voting! _______________________________________________ OutVoice mailing list OutVoice at outvoice.net http://outvoice.net/mailman/listinfo/outvoice_outvoice.net From rwaite at twcny.rr.com Wed Mar 24 06:16:32 2010 From: rwaite at twcny.rr.com (Ronald Waite) Date: Wed, 24 Mar 2010 07:16:32 -0400 Subject: [OutVoice] warm wishes Message-ID: <1C682D2DE4514430B2BE67A4C66CF291@S0031675456> March 24, 2010 Happy Birthday to Brian W.
