About five years ago, performer Jade Esteban Estrada came to St. Louis with
a sweet one-man show, “Tortilla Heaven,” in which he played all the
members of a family very much like . . . well, very much like the Estradas.
Now he’s returning with another solo effort, this one about HIV. But ”A
Lullaby for Ryan: The History of HIV/AIDS in America,” is a lot more
theatrical than that title sounds. An original musical-comedy (Estrada wrote it),
“Lullaby” finds Estrada portraying a host of characters, among them Rock
Hudson, Miss Protease Inhibitor 1996 and “Boobs,” AKA the bubonic plague.
Estrada, who tours internationally, has appeared on “30 Rock” and ”The
Graham Norton Effect.” He was the host of the 19th annual South Florida GLAAD
Media Awards, which aired on Bravo.
The show starts at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16, at the Urban Eats Cafe,
3301 Meramec St. Tickets - $12 in advance, $15 at the door – are available
through Urban Eats (urbaneatscafe.com/tickets). The show is presented by Urban
Eats, Ragged Blade theatre and the St. Louis LGBT Center. A portion of
the proceeds will benefit the center.
