Program #1,152 - distributed 4/26/10
Airs on more than 200 local stations around the world... or
Listen now via our free podcast at www.thiswayout.org
(hosted by Greg Gordon and produced with Lucia Chappelle)
Pop punk, Pride, and your biggest crush tune up the "Audiofile";
The son of a maniacal homophobe shares his escape saga;
GetEQUAL gets after the Obama administration, Bolivia's president
chickens out on sexual orientation, Turkish activists protest a
disordered pronouncement, Veronica's charms are lost on Archie's
new pal, and more global LGBT news

- In "NewsWrap": The new U.S. queer grassroots activist group GetEQUAL demands rights progress at an Obama appearance in Los Angeles, outside the White House, and during a Congressional hearing... Bolivia's President Eso Morales says eating female-hormone-injected chicken causes men to become gay and bald, while Ankara activists demonstrate during a speech by Turkey's Families and Children Minister Aliye Kavaf demanding that she apologize for calling gay people "a biological disorder"... the venerable "Archie" comic book series will introduce openly-gay Riverdale High School student Kevin Keller in the September issue of "Veronica"... and more LGBT news from around the world (written by GREG GORDON, and reported this week by TAREN JAMES and MICHAEL LEBEAU).

- Fred "God Hates Fags" Phelps probably first came to many people's attention when he picketed the funeral of gay murder victim Matthew Shepard in 1998. Years before that, however, before all that Phelps family venom was unleashed on the public - including plaguing the memorials of those who died from AIDS, U.S. soldiers killed in the line of duty, and most recently of the 29 miners lost in West Virginia – it created the abusive, fundamentalist home-life son NATE PHELPS described last time on "This Way Out". As their compelling conversation continues, correspondent HEATHER KITCHING (from "Queer FM" on CiTR/Vancouver, B.C.) asks about any ties that may still bind Nate to his kith and kin (with music from "Small Town Boy" performed by BRONSKI BEAT).

- We'll hopscotch from Portland (excerpts from "Turn Signals" and "Best of Me" in the self-titled debut CD by KISS KILL) to Nashville (the title track and "Pride Parade Ball" from MICHELLE GARCIA's "SAN FRANCISCO QUEERS"); and Toronto (the title track and "Scarface" from HUNTER VALENTINE's "LESSONS FROM THE LATE NIGHT") in this month's "AUDIOFILE" [with comments by the artists, hosted by JD DOYLE and CHRIS WILSON, and written and produced with CHRISTOPHER DAVID TRENTHAM].
