[OutVoice] Singing Improvisation workshop with Martin Swinger

Martin Swinger and Deb Hensley are offering an Improvisational Singing
Workshop (called a "VORTEX) at 1540 Asbury Ave. (near Jimmy's Restaurant)
Asbury Park, New Jersey on Wednesday, November 18 from 7-9 PM. PLEASE COME
and PLEASE help me spread the word!

     The VORTEX begins with simple singing games to get everyone aquainted
and warmed up, then gently introduces song forms which offer opportunity for
solo, small ensemble and large group improvised songs. In a supportive and
fun environment, participants explore inventing and singing simple riffs,
skat singing, and other singing forms which scaffold into rich and
surprising harmonies, polyrhythms and songs that 'morph' from one style into
another. The workshop has been described by participants as "Brilliant!"
"Instant Community Choir." and even "Life-Changing Stuff!" No particular
musical skills are necessary, just a willingness to be playful with your
voice. The VORTEX is not for children, but musically inclined teens are
welcome.

     Teachers, Martin Swinger and Deb Hensley are co-founders of a 5 person
ensemble called ImproVox (www.Improvox.com <http://www.improvox.com/>) who
have been performing and leading VORTEX vocal improvisation workshops for 5
years for people of all skill levels. Many of the exercises have been
learned directly from private, intensive studies with Rhiannon, one of Bobby
McFerrin's longtime Voicestra members.

     The workshop asks a donation of $20 but welcomes anyone interested to
pay-what-you-can by honor system at the door. The VORTEX is held in a
beautiful private home with plenty of safe, well lighted street parking.
Wear comfortable, loose clothes, thick socks or slippers, bring water,
friends and an open mind to join in on a amazingly fun ride into vocal
improvisation.
