"THIS WAY OUT: the international lesbian & gay radio magazine
Program #1,114 - distributed 8/3/09
(hosted this week by Greg Gordon and produced with Lucia Chappelle)
Pansy Division multiplies its legacy;
The White House silences a "don't axe, don't fund" proposal;
Labor lags as Aussies go all out for marriage equality, Albania's
Government proposes wedded bliss, Portugal's Constitutional Court
rebuffs marriage-seeking lesbians, and more global LGBT news;
plus a late-breaking bulletin: a gunman kills 2 youths in Tel Aviv.

- In "NewsWrap": Australia's gays, lesbians and their supporters demand marriage equality at National Day of Action demonstrations across the country, while Albania's Government proposes legislation to allow same-gender couples to civilly marry, but Portugal's Constitutional Court upholds the country's hetero-only marriage law... the man accused of killing gay African-American U.S. Navy Seaman August Provost commits suicide... Salt Lake City's prosecutor refuses to file trespassing charges against a kissing gay couple, while "The Great Nationwide Kiss-In" to affirm same-gender affection is scheduled for August 15th [http://sitin4equality.net]... and more LGBT news from around the world (written by GREG GORDON, and reported this week by CHRISTOPHER DAVID TRENTHAM and CHRIS COLEMAN)  +  BREAKING NEWS: a masked machine-gunner attacks an LGBT youth support group in Tel Aviv, killing at least 2 and wo
unding more than a dozen others.

- Political pressure again shot down another attempt to at least temporarily suspend U.S. military discharges under "DON’T ASK, DON’T TELL."  MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow spoke with frustrated DEMOCRATIC CONGRESSMAN ALCEE HASTINGS of FLORIDA this week; meanwhile, new research underscores the heretofore unstudied harm the policy may be doing to all enlisted personnel, and the BRITISH Army puts an openly gay trooper on the cover of its official magazine.

- San Francisco's legendary queer band PANSY DIVISION celebrates 20 years of rock with a new CD, "THAT'S SO GAY", a DVD, and a memoir by lead singer Jon Ginoli.  The band is also playing a series of live shows across the U.S.A.  "This Way Out" Brisbane, Australia correspondent JOHN FRAME – a devoted fan – spoke by phone with the group’s co-founder, co-writer, bassist and vocalist CHRIS FREEMAN in Los Angeles (with excerpts from the new CD's title cut).
