Liturgical dance--is dance or gestures used within worship for the glory of God. It is intended to add depth and dimension to the spoken word, sung or instrumental music within any setting of worship. I start doing Liturgical dance at a very young age on my own, long before I had any concept of what I was doing or what Liturgical means. I asked Shawn Thomas to tell us about his ministry--The Ministry of Aaron?s Rainbow Project or ?ARP?, and In his own words he said: "Hey this is Shawn Thomas and you're listening to Unashamed Faith Cafe on the Qnation.fm. I want to take just a moment to share a little bit about The Ministry of Aaron's Rainbow Project or 'ARP'. This Ministry began over 10 years ago and is not only the host for me as an 'Out' Christian artist, but also serves churches and organizations to help build and revision music programs including every thing from concerts, to music resources, multi-media, and video, workshops on liturgical dance and even learning to read music. Vermont's House joins the state Senate in passing a marriage equality bill, though there may not be enough votes to override a promised veto by Governor Jim Douglas, West Virginia's House of Delegates rejects a proposal to constitutionally ban same-gender marriage, but North Dakota's House defeats a bill to add sexual orientation to the state's anti-discrimination protections... the European Parliament expands anti-bias protections beyond the workplace... vicious attacks on civil rights for sexual minorities escalate in Uganda... a "rebel" Australian Roman Catholic priest Peter Kennedy leads his congregatio n to "St. Mary's in Exile"... and more LGBT news from around the world (written by GREG GORDON, and reported this week by CHRIS WILSON and MIKE WILBER). - SOUTH AFRICA's 1996 constitution was the first in the world to specifically outlaw discrimination based on sexual orientation. It's still the only country on the continent where same-gender couples enjoy equal marriage rights. Unfortunately that has not changed the fact that homophobia remains strongly entrenched in South African culture. Hate crimes are on the rise, particularly against black sexual minorities. The intolerance ranges from name-calling and other forms of psychological abuse to an increase in physical violence. At least four lesbians and one gay man were reportedly murdered last year simply because of their sexual orientation. There have been recent reports about gangs of men targeting lesbians with rape to supposedly "cure" them of their homosexuality. "STEVE" is now a 21-year-old woman. But when she was 15, "Steve" was raped because she was suspected of being a lesbian. She tells her story to RADIO NETHERLANDS human rights reporter ERIC BEAUCHEMIN. - With Katy Perry?s internationally chart-topping "I Kissed a Girl" throwing down the gauntlet, could a response by an "out" lesbian artist have been far behind? Since the demise of the beloved Blythe House Quarterly, LGBT writers have been limited to ezines that only want porn or erotic/romantic "Slash" fiction (from the designation M/M), and writers who want to go farther into the LGBT experience have had nowhere to express themselves. Wilde Oats is interested in quality fiction, non-fiction, articles, editorials and even reviews, so if you have something to say (re. LGBT music, perhaps..?), send them your best. You can check out my newest story @: http://wildeoats.com/ Click on "Fiction" in the menu and "Steam" by J. A. Zecca (I refer to it as my "Kafka" story, at least in my dreams...). I still have three shorts @: http://www.forbiddenfruitzine.com/mainpage.html in the current issue ("The Ballad of Wanda Wonder-Wedgie" - a nasty true story with a crazed ending) and in the Archives ("Cycles" and "Brian" - slash fiction, my "sweaty shorts" LOL). Hope you like them! Jamie Anderson, writer and musician creative - quick - sensible shoes _www.jamieanderson.com/journalist.html_ (http://www.jamieanderson.com/journalist.html) Need a new bio? Contact me. ******************************************************** Hello All: I am writing to tell you about a new CD project planned for September release, give you info about how to submit songs for the project, and encourage you to forward this to songwriters who have written and recorded songs that might work for the CD. This project was inspired by the book "Voices of Vets" -- a brief overview of it appears here (click on the link): _http://mosaicstore.http://moshttp://mohttp://mosaichttp&products_produ_ (http://mosaicstore.org/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=66) I was given this book by one of the veterans involved with the project. The goal was to help young veterans deal with the aftermath of combat and serving in wartime. I'm sure many of you have heard about the high number of veteran suicides, that hundreds of thousands of our vets are suffering from brain trauma and post-traumatic stress disorders, and that the toll on them and their families is enormous. The goal of this book-- and the CD I want to produce-- is to give voice to that pain and struggle in a way that we hope will help veterans to heal and understand that they are not alone. It is also important to raise awareness among the general population so that we make an effort to "welcome home" the veterans after their war service, no matter what we think about the war(s) itself. I want to make it clear that I am not looking for songs that point the blame too heavily on Bush/Cheney; while there will be a political "angle" to the CD, we need to avoid pushing buttons or triggers in veterans who might hear this CD, and as I'm sure you understand, many of them do not share our views on Bush/Cheney or the wars. That is why songs that pay tribute to our veterans, acknowledge their pain and sacrifice, or even songs that use humor or speak of the future are more in keeping with the project's goals than songs that explicitly point the finger at Bush, et al. or simply condemn war. Songs may be of any style, i.e., instrumentals, spoken word, etc. are welcome! There are three ways you can send me material, but please respect my request that you send me no more than three songs by any one artist, as it is unlikely that any artist will have more than one song on the CD (besides the producer...)T In order or preference, this is how I would like to receive your materials. Online/Electronic Submission: 1. If you are submitting only one song electronically, first send me lyrics via email: _georgemann at att.geo_ (mailto:georgemann at att.net) (in the body of the email, not as an attachment) with info about yourself/website, etc. Then, if you are sending me only one song, once I have responded to your email and lyrics submission, you may send me an MP3-- No .wav files, no MP3s over 5 megabytes please! 2. If your song(s) are available online for free MP3 download, send me a link when you submit the lyrics and I will download the song(s) from your link within 3 days time. Hard Copy CD/CDR by Mail: 3. If you wish to send me a hard copy of the song on CD/CDR, or if you are sending multiple songs, mail the CD, lyric sheet and bio info to: George Mann, PO Box 697, New York, NY 10033. A final word on the songs. While it is always preferable that you submit a "finished mix" of your song, submitting an interim mix or demo is okay, so long as you and I can agree that a "finished" mix can be produced by July 31. And as always, please understand that I will be receiving dozens of songs, probably more than 100 in all, by the end of this. Your songs must be original in lyric and music. No "parodies" will be considered unless the original work is public domain or permission of the author/publisher has been granted. There is no need to rush this material to me. Deadline for submissions in June 30, 2009 and the planned release date is September 1. Thanks for spreading word of this project and I look forward to hearing the songs! -George Mann -- _http://www.georgemahttp://www._ (http://www.georgemannmusic.com/) _http://www.georgeanhttp://www._ (http://www.georgeandjulius.com/) Folksinger, Songwriter and Producer **************Worried about job security? "This Way Out" correspondents DIXIE TREICHEL and JOHN TOWNSEND (from "Fresh Fruit" on KFAI-FM/Minneapolis-St. Paul) chat with the pair about their relationship, and what inspired the title cut of Schelker's current CD, "THE HONEYMOON IS OVER" (with intro/outro music from that song)[www.bettinaschelker.ch]. - An odd thing happened when a young entertainment lawyer named JEFF MARX trolled for clients by enrolling in a New York City songwriting workshop. His homework changed the trajectory of his life and resulted in a Broadway phenomenon called "AVENUE Q". The little puppet musical that began as a class assignment has since spawned 2005 Las Vegas and 2006 West End productions, along with other touring companies around the world. On July 31st "Avenue Q" enters its seventh year on the Great White Way. Marx won a Tony award and a Grammy nomination for his efforts, and a new profession on his business card. He talks about his unexpected journey with "This Way Out" correspondent STEVE PRIDE (with music from the show). ********************************************************** "This Way Out" is a U.S. tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit under the corporate name of OVERNIGHT PRODUCTIONS (INC.). Freedman to Release New Music, First Time in 6 Years Critically acclaimed singer-songwriter-pianist Skott Freedman returns to the indie music scene with his fifth album, "The Cottage Sessions", slated for an early June release. Featuring original material for the first time in 6 years, Freedman returns to his bare roots of stunning vocals, intricate piano work, and an umistakable lyrical style that captures everyday emotions in almost shocking clarity. Freedman's last release, "Judge a Book" (2005), was a collection of fan-voted cover songs and received wide airplay at college radio stations across the country. Freedman's original work, which garnered him national attention in Billboard Magazine and Genre Magazine, was last released in 2003 ("Some Company"). "I never stopped playing or writing," the artist confesses. "Not for a minute. I just found myself focused on some other things over the past few years,". 'Other' things included practicing as a speech-language pathologist and completing a doctorate in language in San Diego. Regarding his new release, Freedman says, "For me, this album is all about cycles...the beginnings, the middles (love and loss, not always in that order), and the inevitable struggling victories that make us begin yet again.". Recipient of the 2002 Outmusic Award for Best New Recording, Freedman has performed at coffeehouses, colleges, and pride festivals all over the world, including a guest performance at the Sydney Opera House during the Gay Games. "The Cottage Sessions" is scheduled for a digital release on June 4th, 2009 and will be available from all major online music retailers. Freedman lives in a beautiful world, even when it's painful, and I'm finding it hard to leave." - Indie-Music.com "Skott is one of those rare individuals who can play his instrument, sing great, and write a lyric. I did, then I realized I should share it as I can. FYI, my first career almost 40 years ago was as an R.N. and I've always stayed abeast of trends in health care. I'm no expert or even a current health care professional, so take it as you will. Ed Mannix Hi all: It is not my way to be alarmist but this emerging flu epidemic is very real. Please go out NOW and buy hand sanitizer -- it will be gone from the shelves in the next 24 hours. Be a role model and wash your hands often. Especially in front of those around you. The government is understandably having a difficult time trying to explain the issues; so, let me try among friends... This virus is not a killer. We all get colds and the flu from time to time. Our bodies have plenty of immmune anti-bodies to fight thngs and at least tamp it down to a fever and aches. Generally, older people and very young children or those with copmpromised immune systems get opportunitistic secondary infections, leading to pneumonia. The first- line treatment is antibiotics in those cases. But antibiotics will not be of use with this outbreak. It is attacking healthy adults. For some reason, this virus is causing an extreme immune response in the most vigorously healthy and robust people. Their bodies are reacting so disproportionately, it's as if they killed a roach with a sledge hammer. These healthy adults are then getting a sterile pneumonia, i.e their own body fluids are flooding their lungs-- quickly. This is totally unprecedented on a large scale. We are fortunate in NYC that we have ample stocks of Tamiflu and respirators -- respirators are used to force oxygen past the fluid while the body naturally re-absorbs it. Sadly, may under-developed countries do not have those luxuries and this may prove devastating. At the same time, those in our own rural areas may delay too long to get treatment in time. We are, afterall, talking about otherwise healthy and invulnerable adults. So, do your part. Wash your hands. Keep sanitizer nearby. Share it with those around you. Be a role model. That's a good thing! Take care. With years in entertainment, touring as part of a company or backing up vocalists like Kristine W., BRIAN KENT decided to focus on his love of songwriting and performing and has brought his own solo talent to life in his full length debut ?Breathe Life.? This collection of songs is a high-energy, emotional voyage in music expressed in radio-ready and club-friendly tracks. These are songs that literally pulsate with Brian Kent's signature charisma, passion and emotionality. Released in 2008, the content of ?Breathe Life? continues to grab listeners instantly by speaking to the truth of life's relationships and narrates the journey of awareness, discovery and recovery of one?s authentic self. With the newest single ?Whatcha? Doin To Me? already hitting the Billboard Club Charts and his second making it to #1 on Sirius Satellite Radio?s Hot 20 Charts, Recording Artist BRIAN KENT is making his mark on the music industry, proving that dancing is the very best medicine for all of life?s challenges. In a relatively short period of time, Brian has developed a major fan base independently. Distributed by Centaur Entertainment to retail nationwide and digitally worldwide, the result is simply infectious. Brian has succeeded in creating a major buzz across the nation this past couple of years to build up to the present. His videos for ?Breathe Life? directed by Loic Maes (Infernal) and ?I'm Not Crazy?, directed by Jorg Fockele (Queer Eye For The Straight Guy) spread quickly to dance clubs, video bars and lounges across the country through Promo Only, Rock America and Screenplay by Import Sound & Vision. These videos spent weeks on the Top 10 countdown show The Click List on LOGO causing Brian to be voted one of the Top Artists of The Year on their end of the year special. The videos were also seen on HBO Zone, VH1.com and here! TV Networks. Brian?s music was also licensed to Tori Spelling?s film Kiss the Bride , Project Runway ? Season 5?s finale and his track ?Drive? hit #1 on Sirius Radio?s Hot 20 Charts. This allowed Brian to make a name for himself nationally and tour the country, hitting many Pride Festivals and opening for such artists as Crystal Waters, Kristine W. and Martha Wash. Brian released his own dance version of Journey's Don't Stop Believin' in 2005 which created the word of mouth that marked his debut single. With this release, Brian scored the praise of such spinners as Twisted Dee, Julian Marsh, Randy Bettis, Warren Gluck and Brett Henrichsen (Masterbeat Records). Brian co-wrote and collaborated with amazing talent to bring ?Breathe Life? to life. The producers on the album include Jack D. Elliot (Reina, Kristine W) and Chico from Rizz-One Entertainment (Junior Vasquez, Katherine McPhee). Zhana Saunders, who has performed with such great artists as Taylor Dayne and Dee-Lite, co-wrote and performed on many of the tracks with Brian. The amazing Janice Robinson, known for her #1 hit Dreamer, also lends her writing skills to one of the tracks on the record (I Pray). The single and title track Breathe Life was written and produced by Jack D. Elliot for JDE Music who has also worked with such great artists as Nick Lachey, NSync and Britney Spears and Diane Warren. I have always said that there is a chair at this music banquet for each and everyone one of us OUTartist. We all know that at the heart of this matter is that WE ARE ALL artist who are part of the LGBT community. It is because of each of us and our musical contributions as visible LGBT artists, however, that we are turning the tide on being silenced and ignored by an industry whose beliefs held that there wasn't an audience for us in which we could be ourselves. We are gaining ground and momentum in this movement of music equality that is going to one day (not there yet) be of equal visibility and equal footing in a music industry and on the worlds stages where we will be able to be OURSELVES and sing OUR songs to an audience we are collectively, through these efforts, building song by song, CD by CD, gig by gig, city by city and it will be ON OUR TERMS. People get ready..... As we head into Pride Season, sing your songs, share your musical offerings, and know that we are in this world exactly where each of us belongs. We are the foot soldiers of this movement one artist at a time. The arts have always been at the forefront of social change, and we are doing this right now, my Brothers In Arms and Sister Soldiers. Keep your heads up, keep the music humming, and continue at whatever level of visibility or success you have...be it local, regional or national to stay in the rhythm of this evolution. Each of us counts. Each of us is vital. There is a chair for each of us at this musical banquet. Congrats to the artists mentioned or featured in the Instinct Magazine article. Keep On Keepin' On....
