                  ========================================
                              THIS WAY OUT
              the international gay & lesbian radio magazine
                   Program #1,052, distributed 05/26/08
   (hosted this week by Greg Gordon and produced with Lucia Chappelle)
     Acoustic love mixes with opinionated anthems in the "Audiofile";
         How Little Sister's threw the books at Canada Customs;
    France, Cuba and Turkey lead IDAHO observances around the world,
Poland's President makes the homophobe Hall of Shame, Gambian gays are
given a "leave or die" ultimatum, Jamaica's P.M. balks at human rights
criticism, a gay Iranian teen wins UK asylum, and more global LGBT news

* In "NewsWrap": The third annual International Day Against Homophobia
(IDAHO) is observed in France, Cuba, Turkey, and some 60 other countries around the
world, but President Lech Kaczynski heads Human Rights Watch's IDAHO "Hall of
Shame" as a so-called "rehabilitation center" to "cure" homosexuality opens in
Poland, Gambian President Yahya Jammeh calls for all homosexuals in his
country to be killed, and Jamaican P.M. Bruce Golding defends his country's sodomy
law... British Home Secretary Jacqui Smith grants asylum to gay Iranian teen
refugee Mehdi Kazemi... and more LGBT news from around the world (written by GRE
G GORDON, and reported this week by RICK WATTS and GREG GORDON).

* It's been 25 years since LITTLE SISTER'S BOOKSTORE first opened its doors
in VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA – and 15 of those years were spent in an epic
drama pitting queer literature against the censorial impulses of CANADA CUSTOMS.
  It had gotten so bad that even the venerable "Advocate" newspaper wasn't
allowed into the country. The store also survived three bomb attacks. In the
first two parts of our silver anniversary celebration, "This Way Out"
correspondent HEATHER KITCHING [CiTR/Vancouver's "Queer FM"] got Little Sister's
co-founder and co-owner JIM DEVA to recall the store's modest beginnings and the
early years of the landmark legal struggle, with archival clips featuring
longtime store manager JANINE FULLER. In this week's conclusion, Heather wraps up
her 25th anniversary conversation with Deva following another archival clip
(British Columbia Civil Liberties Association lawyer JOHN DIXON and manager
Janine Fuller celebrate their legal victory outside the bookstore on December 15,
2000).

* London lesbians (excerpts from "Crazy Sunshine" and "06:32" from
GREYMATTER's "CATERPILLAR TREE"), a debuting Hawai'ian ("Can't Help Lovin' That Man of
Mine" and "That's What I Like About You" from CLAY CALLAWAY's "DARN IT, BABY,
THAT'S LOVE"), and an old friend exploring new territory ("Protest Song" and
"Little Boy Blue" from ERIC HIMAN's "RESONATE") chart their courses in this
edition of the "AUDIOFILE" (with comments by the artists, hosted this month by
JD DOYLE & CHRISTOPHER DAVID TRENTHAM, and written and produced with CHRIS
WILSON/www.audiofile.org).
