Hey Outvoice Peeps!

I am sending this out far and wide.  If you happen to be in the NYC area in September, this may be a great FREE workshop to take in.  VLA is a great organization which I have utilized many, many, MANY moons ago.

SEE POST BELOW -

Dear VLA Friends and Members,

Back by popular demand, VLA is proud to announce its workshop with Public Knowledge Copyright Law for Musicians & Composers

When:
Monday, September 22, 2008: 5:30pm - 7:30pm.
(with a light reception at 5pm)

Where:
Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts
1 East 53rd Street
1st Floor Auditorium
NY, NY 10022

Are mash-ups legal? How do file sharing, digital downloading and the Internet affect musicians' rights? What is fair use, and what does it let you (and others) do? What control do telephone and cable companies have in your music distribution? Copyright law is changing rapidly in the face of new technologies. Increasingly, laws and policies written in a pre-VCR world are being applied to a post- YouTube society.

This two-hour tutorial will be presented by Public Knowledge (www. publicknowledge. org), a Washington-D.C.-based public interest group that focuses on the intersections between copyright law and the Internet.

This VLA-sponsored class is FREE but you must be registered in advance to attend. To register, please complete this Registration Form and return it to Ben Brandow via fax to 212.752.
