"THIS WAY OUT: the international lesbian & gay radio magazine
Program #1,062 distributed 08/04/08
(hosted this week by Lucia Chappelle and produced with Greg Gordon)
A "Sordid" small town saga parks its trailer on the LOGO lot;
Political hip-hop, comfortable rock, & dreamy jazz in the "Audiofile";
Stockholm homophobes prey on EuroPride participants, Saudi religious police bust more "gay party"-goers, Ugandan police allegedly abduct and torture a troublesome AIDS activist, Massachusetts opens same-gender marriage to the masses, and more global LGBT news

* In "NewsWrap":  Violent attacks against 4 gay men and the homophobic vandalism of 3 churches mar EuroPride celebrations in Stockholm... the man who killed 2 people and wounded 7 others at a Tennessee church wrote about his hatred of liberals and gay people... religious police in Saudi Arabia arrest 55 party-goers at another "gay raid" in Qatif, while human rights groups condemn the alleged police abduction and torture of a Ugandan AIDS activist... Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick signs a bill repealing a 1913 law that prevented out-of-state same-gender couples from marrying there... and more LGBT news from around the world (written by GREG GORDON, reported this week by CHRIS WILSON and PAM MARSHALL).

* Hip-hop that’s not straight (excerpts from "Future President" and "Gay Bash" from MELANGE LAVONNE’s "THE MOVEMENT"), folk rock that’s also country ("Black and White" and "Ace of Diamonds" from MORRY CAMPBELL’s "LONG WAY HOME"), and a dream come true ("Let
 Me Love You" and "I Like to Lead When I Dance" from SUEDE’s "DANGEROUS MOOD") jazz up this edition of the "AUDIOFILE" (with comments by each artist, hosted by CHRIS WILSON & JD DOYLE, and written and produced with CHRISTOPHER DAVID TRENTHAM) [www.audiofile.org].

* In "SORDID LIVES: THE SERIES," the colorful folk in a certain Texas town are back in action after having won an avid following with the 1996 play and 2000 movie of the same name.  For the 12-episode half hour comedy playing on the U.S. LOGO cable network, creator-writer-director DEL SHORES has reunited stars from his film, including Bonnie Bedelia, Olivia Newton-John, Ann Walker, Beth Grant and Leslie Jordan, who are joined by new recruits Rue McClanahan and Caroline Rhea.  His larger than life but not far from the truth small-town saga is imbued with the Spirit, cigarette smoke and self-administered Valium; pecan pie, whiskey shots at the local bar, sex, and an undying love of country music superstar Tammy Wynette.  "This Way Out" entertainment correspondent STEVE PRIDE sets a spell with Shores and his produc
er/star/husband JASON DOTTLEY to get caught up on all the goings on (with copious audio clips from the show, and "None of My Business," music from the series, performed by OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN).
