                              THIS WAY OUT
              the international gay & lesbian radio magazine
                   Program #1,047, distributed 04/21/08
   (hosted this week by Greg Gordon and produced with Lucia Chappelle)
            Who will walk down the aisle to "Kiss the Bride"?;
 The Astraea Lesbian Foundation's 30 years of finding cash for causes;
    'N Sync's Lance Bass promotes this year's National Day of Silence;
   Queer couples conquer Colombia's pension divide, the resurrection of
   Italy's right worries equality activists, cops raid LGBT centers in
             Turkey and Kyrgyzstan, and more global GLBT news

* In "NewsWrap": Colombia's Constitutional Court rules that same-gender
couples are entitled to the same government pension and health benefits as
heterosexual married partners... Italy takes a sharp turn to the right with the
election of anti-queer former P.M. Silvio Berlusconi to lead the country's 63rd
government since 1945, and a rightwing mob ransacks Rome's LGBT center, while
police raid LGBT centers in Turkey and Kyrgyzstan... in Utah, Mormon leaders agree
to a first-ever meeting with Affirmation, which advocates for acceptance of
LGBT people in the religious denomination... two more high-profile gay
celebrities come out... and more LGBT news from around the world (written by GREG
GORDON, with thanks to REX WOCKNER with BILL KELLEY, and reported this week by
ERICA SPRINGER and TANYA KANE-PARRY).

* Another high-profile gay celebrity is appearing in a public service
announcement for GLSEN, the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network. Promoting
the 11th annual NATIONAL DAY OF SILENCE on U.S. school campuses, LANCE BASS,
of the popular "boy band" 'N Sync, told reporters that he wanted to "help
educate, because I'm lucky enough to have been given a voice to be able to talk and
grab the attention of people." In the YouTube-posted video, a diverse group
of LGBT youth appear with Bass to promote the April 25th event
[www.dayofsilence.org].

* The ASTRAEA LESBIAN FOUNDATION FOR JUSTICE is celebrating 30 years of
support for queer and feminist causes around the world. This Way Out
correspondents DIXIE TREICHEL and JOHN TOWNSEND (from "Fresh Fruit" on
KFAI-FM/Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota) chat with Communications Director JENNIFER EINHORN about
the organization's generous herstory [www.astraea.org].

* The latest feature from award-winning filmmaker C. Jay Cox ("Sweet Home
Alabama" and the queer film favorite "Latter Days") is called "KISS THE BRIDE,"
and it will soon be heading down the aisle to a theater near you. It's about
Matt (Philipp Karner), a gay man who gets a wedding invitation from his former
high school boyfriend Ryan (James O'Shea). When he discovers that the
"Alex" his ex-flame is marrying is an actual woman (Tori Spelling), Matt decides to
attend the ceremony and bring Ryan to his senses. Matt is instead forced to
confront a past he thought he had left behind, and feelings he thought were
long gone. This Way Out reporter STEVE PRIDE talks with the director (C. JAY
COX), the bride (TORI SPELLING), and the boys (PHILIPP KARNER and JAMES
O'SHEA) to find out if this marriage was made in cinematic heaven - or at least has
a prenup (with audio clips from the movie) [www.PrideOnScreen.com].
