THIS WAY OUT
the international gay & lesbian radio magazine
Program #983 - the week of 01/29/07
(hosted by Greg Gordon and produced with Lucia Chappelle)
Audiofile’s 10th anniversary blends gospel, harmonies & blue-eyed soul;
An out-standing novel puts some "Irish" on coming of age;
Josephine Baker Saves the Children;
UK religious opposites unite to fight adoptions equality, Bush eschews
the "A" word, Warsaw and Moscow Pride-sters seek EuroCourt redress,
Kenyan queers wow the World Social Forum, and more global GLBT news
* In "NewsWrap": The Blair Government resists demands from U.K. Roman
Catholic leaders to exempt its adoption agencies from new laws banning discrimination
against gays & lesbians; Anglican and Muslim leaders vocally support the
U.K. Roman Catholic position, but England’s only Jewish adoption agency has no
problem with the anti-bias laws... likely a result of the November elections,
U.S. President Bush does not renew his call for passage of the so-called
"Federal Marriage Amendment" in his State of the Union address... organizers denied
permits for Pride events in Warsaw and Moscow each aim for the European Court
of Human Rights with civil rights violation lawsuits... Kenya’s Gay and Lesbian
Coalition wows the World Social Forum in Kasarani, but Muslim clerics condemn
the "surge of homosexuality" in their country... and other GLBT news from
around the world (written by GREG GORDON, and reported this week by TANYA KAN
E-PARRY and JON BEAUPRE).
* This Way Out commentator JANET MASON has a keen eye for a good read, but
this time she's come across something that really carried her away -- "A SON
CALLED GABRIEL" by Irishman DAMIAN McNICHOLL (CDS Books) -- and she thinks it'll
do the same for you.
* "JOSEPHINE BAKER SAVES THE CHILDREN" in this "RAINBOW MINUTE" (produced by
JUDD PROCTOR and BRIAN BURNS at WRIR-FM in Richmond, Virginia and read by MARY
GAY HUTCHERSON).
* This month’s "AUDIOFILE" blends genre-bending gospel (excerpts from "U
Found Me" and "Bittersweet Salvation" from LEVI KREIS’ "THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO
LEVI"), style-blending harmonies ("Dirty Little Nice Girl" and "Collateral
Damage" from THE DAMSELS’ "ASHES"), and blue-eyed soul ("Get It Gone" and "Brothers
in Arms & Sister Soldiers" from TERRY CHRISTOPHER’s "JOURNEY OF A WORDSMITH")
(with comments by the artists, this milestone 10th anniversary offering is
hosted by CHRIS WILSON, PAM MARSHALL & JD DOYLE and was written and produced
with CHRISTOPHER DAVID TRENTHAM/www.audiofile.org).
