Dear Outsters--
Yes, sometimes the show is all about what I want to do, and one of the  
people I've been wanting to talk with for the longest time is Mel Odom. Some of  us 
of a certain age will remember his artwork from the 70s and 80s, all the way  
from BLUEBOY and PLAYBOY to OMNI and TIME with cover illustrations for 
Penguin  Books (NOCTURNES FOR THE KING OF NAPLES and SPLENDORA being a couple that 
come  to immediate memory.) His career took an interesting twist when the 
emotional  and spiritual crisis our community faced in the early 90s fueled his 
desire to  bring his long held dream to life--the creation of Gene Marshall, a 
fictional  film star from the 40s and 50s who's part toy and part art. Mel and I 
talked  about this and her recent revamp ala Jason Wu (the wonderboy behind  
Integrity Toys, Fashion Royalty dolls, and the fabulous RuPaul doll) and the  
upcoming Gene Event taking place in Dallas in early November. For  information
