Thanks for bringing this matter up for conversation, Freddy. I think we've dealt with it before, but it's a topic that I think everyone needs a reminder regarding..
First, to address your specific question: If you're going to bleep out "fucking," I'd say do the whole word, not just that "F-king" you hear on Morning Zoo-type shows. Those stations have a much bigger budget than the stations that are most likely to play you. Of course, I'm not refering to satellite or internet stations--as far as I know, they're not under these guidelines.
Yes, it is absurd that people are fined for broadcasting language that others mutter under their breaths, shout from car windows, or speak into microphones at the state dinner table that they don't know are still on..okay, so they're not fined for THAT.
So what do I do when I'm aware that a song lyric uses language some would find offensive? (I mean, other than "Republican?" ) Well, to be honest--most of the time I just sigh and say, "Can't play THAT one." Okay, what if it's a song I really REALLY WANT to play? I wish I had backward-tracking software--most of the time, tho, like JD I'll just time out that particular moment in the song and lower the volume level. Again, to be honest--that's a lot of my time spent on a particular aspect of show prep that could be used with other artists/songs/heck, whatever else I want to do in my free time, so I REALLY REALLY have to like the artist or song..
It's better if the artists can make radio clean versions of their songs available, either as mp3's or special CD singles/ep's. Or heck, just let radio folk know if there's a potential problem in one of the songs by including lyrics and/or a note regarding the word. The less time I have to spend wondering if the singer's saying "ship" or "shit," the better..
 Love, Taylor
