                   ========================================
                            THIS WAY OUT
                 the international gay & lesbian radio magazine
                      Program #973 - the week of 11/20/06
          (hosted by Greg Gordon and produced with Lucia Chappelle)
     Going from Broadway stage to silver screen with "The History Boys";
 A trans-band, band of sisters, and star-backed soloist in the "Audiofile";
   South African lawmakers "civilize" marriage, conservatives threaten a
 challenge to Mexico City unions, Iranian authorities acknowledge a sodomy
  execution, the Pentagon "promotes" homosexuality from disorder to defect,
 U.S. Catholic Bishops say you're only damned if you do, and more GLBT news

* In "NewsWrap": South Africa's National Assembly overwhelmingly approves a
bill to create civil unions, a separate category to legally recognize both
same-gender and hetero couples that spouses can call marriage... Mexico City's
civil unions bill is officially signed into law, but Mexico's ruling conservative
party is threatening a legal challenge... Iran publicly hangs a gay man
convicted of sodomy... a challenge to the U.S. military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"
policy is headed to the First Circuit Court of Appeal in Boston, while the
Pentagon changes guidelines that had formerly labeled homosexuality a mental
disorder to a "defect" like dyslexia or bed-wetting... the U.S. Conference of
Catholic Bishops issues guidelines on "Ministry to Persons with a Homosexual
Inclination" that require lesbigay Catholics to stay celibate and in the closet...
and more GLBT news from around the world (written by GREG GORDON and reported
this week by TANYA KANE-PARRY and JON BEAUPRE).

* "THE HISTORY BOYS" tells the story of an unruly class of bright, funny
history students in pursuit of an undergraduate place at Oxford or Cambridge.
Their journey becomes as much about how education works as it is about where
education leads. The big screen adaptation of the five-time Tony award-winning
play of the same name features the same talent that originally brought the
production to the Broadway stage. With preview clips and music from the film, This
Way Out's STEVE PRIDE talks with "out" gay director NICHOLAS HYTNER, actors
SAMUEL BARNETT (who plays the gay student Posner), DOMINIC COOPER (Dakin, the
object of Posner's affections), and legendary British actor RICHARD GRIFFITHS
(Hector, the semi-closeted gay teacher) about their collective place in history
[www.foxsearchlight.com, www.prideonscreen.com].

* A trans-band (excerpts from "Just A Girl" and "Constant Craving" from
LIPSTICK CONSPIRACY's "A PERFECT ALIBI"), a star-backed soloist (the title cut and
"My Boyfriend's Back" from JAY SPEARS' "PLAYIN' ON MY TEAM"), and a band of
sisters ("On the Dance Floor" and the title cut from SISTER FUNK's "GOSSIP")
serenade this month's "AUDIOFILE" [with comments by the artists, hosted by CHRIS
WILSON & JD DOYLE, and written and produced with CHRISTOPHER DAVID
TRENTHAM/www.audiofile.org].
