                   ========================================
                           The week of 02/27/06 on
                          T H I S    W A Y    O U T
             the international gay & lesbian radio magazine
   (hosted this week by Greg Gordon and produced with Lucia Chappelle)
     New CDs by long out-of-earshot artists waft from the "Audiofile";
  That "Mountain" movie wins 4 BAFTAs while its stars lose their shirts;
    A proudly defiant lesbian teen is viciously killed in South Africa,
the family way holds sway in France, Israel and the U.S., activists defend
   South Korean soldiers from military discrimination, a sobering study
   reveals Don't Ask, Don't Tell's soaring price tag, and more GLBT news

* In "NewsWrap": The shockingly brutal murder of Cape Town-area lesbian teen
Zoliswa Nkonyana underscores the disparity between South Africa's progressive
pro-queer Constitution and the realities of homophobia in its townships...
co-parent adoptions by lesbian couples get court approvals in France and
Israel... a court overturns the rejection of a lesbian foster care applicant in the
U.S. state of Missouri, but moves to ban queer parenting in several other U.S.
states are underway... a coalition of 35 civic groups in South Korea condemn
the ban on and mistreatment of gay and bisexual conscripts in the country's
military, while a blue ribbon commission in the U.S. counts the hundreds of
millions of dollars American taxpayers have lost under the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"
policy... and more GLBT news from around the world (written this week by LUCIA
CHAPPELLE and GREG GORDON and reported by CHRISTOPHER GAAL and SHERI LUNN).

* The latest honors for "BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN" were bestowed at the BRITISH
ACADEMY OF FILM AND TELEVISION AWARDS during ceremonies held in London on
February 19th. Along with winning the Best Adapted Screenplay trophy, the BAFTA for
Best Supporting Actor went to a genuinely surprised JAKE GYLLENHAAL; ANG LEE
rode off with the Best Director award; and co-producer JAMES SHAMUS accepted
the BAFTA for Best Film (with excerpts from each acceptance speech) -- and two
"Brokeback" shirts fetch over $100,000 for a Southern California kids charity
(This Way Out's GREG GORDON reports).

* Tunes for thought about love [excerpts from "It's Still Love (MoveItMula
Mix)" and "Now To The End" from JIMMY WORM's "LAST CHANCE"], aging ["More Than
That" and the title cut from FERRON's "TURNING INTO BEAUTIFUL"], and women's
wisdom ["Ahha (It's a Good Thing)" and "New Boys Blues" from NEDRA JOHNSON's
"NEDRA"] waft out of this month's "AUDIOFILE" [with comments by each of the
artists about his/her music, hosted by CHRIS WILSON & JD DOYLE, and written and
produced with CHRISTOPHER DAVID TRENTHAM].
