                   ========================================
                            THIS WAY OUT
                 the international gay & lesbian radio magazine
                      Program #977 - the week of 12/18/06
       (hosted by Greg Gordon and produced with Lucia Chappelle)
                   Diversity spices life in Key West;
   The UN consults with Euro-queers, Canadian marriage is rejected by
 Dublin's High Court, New Jersey couples won't settle for civil unions,
  another "outed" pastor falls from Grace, "Don't Ask" queers why the
         Pentagon can't speak Arabic, and more global GLBT news;
         plus 4 Poofs and a lesbian legend sing the Yuletide gay

* In "NewsWrap": 3 LGBT groups win "historic" consultative status with the
United Nations Economic and Social Council... the High Court in Dublin denies
recognition in Ireland of a lesbian couple's Canadian marriage, but Sweden's
dominant Lutheran Church will begin blessing registered same-gender couples in
2007... the New Jersey legislature passes a civil unions bill, refusing to call
them "marriage," but also enacts legislation banning bias based on gender
identity or expression... the Reverend Paul Barnes of Grace Chapel in South Denver
becomes the second Colorado mega-church minister to step down after being
"outed"... Thailand's military reclassifies gay and transgender people from being
"permanently mentally ill" to having "sexual identity problems," while the
Iraq Study Group's report noting that there are not enough U.S. military
linguists prompts the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network to underscore the
discharge of at least 50 lesbigay Arabic specialists under "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and
to renew its call for repeal of that policy... what could be the world's
harshest anti-queer laws are debated in Nigeria... and more GLBT news from around
the world (written by GREG GORDON and reported this week by SHERI LUNN and
RICK WATTS).

* Music to make the Yuletide gay: "Camp Up Your Christmas" by 4 POOFS AND A
PIANO [www.4poofsandapiano.com].

* This Way Out entertainment reporter STEVE PRIDE recently visited "The Conch
Republic" (a.k.a. KEY WEST, FLORIDA) and learned that he can't take a voice
recorder on vacation without using it. Steve shares his Key West adventure
through the words of the people he met there, including (in the conclusion of his
2-part story) STEVE SMITH, the Florida Keys Mosquito Control Commissioner who
also handles the LGBT market for the Monroe County Tourist Development
Council; JAMES THOMPSON, founder of the "One Human Family" campaign; KATHA
SHEEHAN, owner of The Chicken Store and leader of the Rooster Rescue Team, a
volunteer group devoted to saving the "street chickens" of Key West; "BRAD," a
"healing" nude dancer; RICHARD DENNISON, a retired wig stylist and former Queen
Mother of Key West; and a few more words from CAROL SHAUGHNESSY, a writer who
moonlights in tourism public relations and is an expert on the history of the
Florida Keys; and NEIL CHAMBERLAIN, owner of PistolAndEnema.com, a popular Key
West travel and gossip Web site [www.PrideOnScreen.com].
